Rear shock advice please, Curvy.

I'm looking for a new rear shock for my 02 curvy and been reading about it all for aaages... I'm a featherweight 9.5st with all my gear. Dipper (I think) sensibly suggested on a previous post I should get the zx10r '06-'07 (8.3kg/mm) but they seem to be like fairy dust whereas there are heaps of other ninja shocks about at the moment.

Not knowing anything about suspension - would I be able to set up a shock which is closer to the standard 9.1kg/mm (gives me the option of fitting '08zx10r or 08zx6r) to suit my tiny mass? The stock one on my curvy (which has only done 10k) throws me up in the air when I hit a hard bump then bounces me two or three times when settling back down, and needless to say is pretty scary on some bumpy corners. Could I set up a similar spring rate shock to have improved compression damping for the high speed bumps and then sort out the rebound damping to stop the pogo stick effect? Or should I hold out / hunt harder for the '06-'07 zx10r shock?

Just get a Ninja shock and get the spring changed to suit your weight.

Shock length is important, spring is the easy thing to change.

If not get a proper shock to replace it, Hargon, Penske,Nitron,Ohlins,Maxton

Search on Ebay for one of these, its where I got mine

Thanks mavic, I'm on a budget though ;) I've drooled over the above, and maybe one day! Hell, if I had another £500 I'd probably cash in the SV and get that daytona 955i I've always wanted...

Really I'm looking to do this all for £100 or under which considering I'm going to do it all myself should be do-able. How much does a respring cost?

that's more to do with the dampening control as its not controlling the spring properly.

i have a Nitron shock on mine which sometimes throws me out the seat but settles straight away with no after undulations.

don't know what the spring lengths are like between the zx shocks and the curvy one but if they are the same it would just be a case of swapping the springs over.

Ohlins do a quality shock for the curvy and you can specify style of riding and your weight on ordering.

Is that "user servicable" then? Leaving the seat sometimes doesn't worry me so much, it's the bouncing which is mildly terrifying :)

Right, decision time; willll probably start off by getting a kwak shock with a similar spring rate to the stock one then decide whether or not it needs a different spring.

Mine did that, isn't nice.

I've got a Hagon on mine, which although it isn't fancy, is 100 times better than stock

Gonna keep all my eyes open, guess you never know when a bargain will come up! In the meantime I've gone and bought a reg'lr zx6r shock for £50, I'll have a play with that for the time being. It's going to be a lot better than stock and will give me some practice in doing my first (of many) shock swaps! Thanks for all the help everyone :) I'm sure I'll be back at some point 'cause I've effed up me settings...
