Right the SV has been stood for about a year now and not really been run properly just left to idle.
Had a problem last year when I got water in the carbs and then found the tap/filter in the tank was all gummed up so cleaned it up but still got running issues.
It will idle fine but if i try and rev it it just dies, increasing the revsx slowly can get it up to about 4k but then dies.
Im guessing the carbs are gummed up as well.
Is there anything I can add into the petrol to clean them out or am I going to need to strip them to clean them?

In my experience the only way is to get in there with the carb cleaner and compressed air, there are some fuel system cleaners that are quite effective, but if something is actually blocked, they'll never get to where they're needed to do their stuff.

Cheers Squid, I was guessing that was going to be the answer but thought I'd ask anyway.
I'll get the toolbox out then, was just feeling a bit lazy! lol
If they've had water in and not used regularly since, you may well find white alum oxide crud rather than gum from dried fuel, and normal carb cleaners won't shift the white stuff. Sounds like a strip to me too.

They didn't have water in for long as I drained them quite quickly.
Any common problems I might come across when I strip them?

Mixer screw on front carb will be rusted solid.
Bowl screws will optimistically intact.

Well I got the carbs off this afternoon and this is what greeted me when I took the float bowl of the rear carb

This is what I scraped out of the bowl

Sent someone out earlier to get me some carb cleaner so that should be with me in the next hour or so

Well I spent an hour or so cleaning the carbs this evening with some Wynns carb cleaner and they look lovely now. Got interrupted by kids bathtime so only managed to get them back on the bike and get it all back together.

That'll learn ya, put some fuel stabilizer in next time & run the bike so its in the whole system. :smt018;)

Got it started today and it's now revving freely but its popping a lot, it didn't before I had the gummed up carbs.
Did a quick video on my phone (video taken with airbox and filter fitted but tank raised if that makes a difference?)

I took the carbs off the bike, took the float bowls off and cleaned them out, took the main jet and its holder and pilot jet out of each and cleaned them and then gave the carbs a good going over with the cleaner inside and out.
Petrol is a couple of months old and has got some Wynns dry fuel in it.
It's running an akra system with cut down can and the baffle in at the moment (only in readiness for the MOT) and an RS road filter both of which were on before and it ran fine.
So what's the consensus with what the problem could be?
Is it worth topping up the tank with some super plus?

Sounds like an air leak to me, or you have pilots way lean.

If pilots need adjusting and they're seized, how do you free them? I like to keep my impact driver as far away from my carbs as possible by the way!!!!!

The pilots are the orginal ones and it idled fine before taking the carbs off so it's got to be an air leak. They carbs were a bit of a pain to get back on.

Oh and in the video the first bit is at about 2k revs and then increased upto about 4k

Fuel lines are fine, cleaned them all up when I cleaned the tanks filter/tap

Pilot circuit still obstructed?

Had another look at it today and the carbs are seated down properly as is the air box. Thought I would just try it with the tank down where it should be rather than up in the air on its prop and lo and behold no popping or banging!
So now all I need to do is MOT and tax it
