just been and checked the choke pulled the cables where they go in the carb and they come so far out so seem ok pulled fuel pipe off the fuel pumpwhere it goes to both of the carbs cranked the engine and fuel shot out so not a fuel issue pulled both plugs out both sparking they are black but no carbon on them was a bit wet bike just turned over didnt try to start but after few mins got a bloody loud backfire .

it wouldnt be a faulty side stand switch would it ide have thought it wouldnt spark if it was faulty the clutch switch must be ok as it turns over when clutch lever pulled in but wont turn over if i dont pull the clutch lever in also kill switch must be ok as if off it wont turn over but if on it turns over.

Im sure one of the clever more mechanical members will be along soon enough to point you in the right direction. You have got spark and fuel you say and you've ruled out side stand, killswitch and clutch switch too? Backfire will be unburnt fuel, i get that too when i use choke when i dont need it. Is the bike just turning over and over? Mine did the same and wouldn't start and just turned over until i flattened the battery and my problem was the stuck choke plungers as once free it started.

will try and have a look at the choke plungers later today im hoping i can get them out without damaging the screws or having to remove or undo the carbs.

I tried to get to mine without pulling the carbs off but i failed as my screws were knackered and made of cheesium so rounded off at the sight of my screwdriver :( Did you check the cable at the splitter were single cable splits into two (little black box left hand side of carbs) as somtimes that dries out.

carbs off the bike choke moves freely had to dremel screws to get them out sping seems a bit rusty but moves easily enough.

ok so had a idea tonight found a old but brand new car spark plug nocking about so went down to the bike took out old sparky held against engine got a spark but more of a white spark bit hit n miss then tried new car sprky diffrent end so wouldnt lock into cap but managed to get it to hold in and placed on frame cranked engine and got a pretty good bluish spark and pretty regular one at that so have orderd new plugs of fleabay will be here for weekend hopefully fingers crossed it will start.
but wondering will crappy plugs stop the choke from working i checked sliders they are free and moving??

Hmm im not sure but new plugs are a good start and have a free bump so hopefully the clever guys on here spot your thread. Did you replace the nasty screws on the carb plunger retainer with nice new stainless ones as it will save you hastle in the future.

no didnt replace choke screws i used the dremel to cut a nice grove in hem so can now get them off easily with a flat head screwdriver will try and ge some new screews.
