pothole?
New bung
dizzyblonde
26-03-12, 04:39 PM
If one had ben travelling at a speed appropriate for the road, the rider could have spotted pothole and readjusted to exit without a problem.
Looks fairly clear from the pictures to spot any oncoming traffic, so as the road veeers to the left, the rider should have been on the right of the pothole, missing it completely
Or am I missing something?

is there not gravel in the road?
I suspect if your bike is still held together with mainly dirt you haven't been able to damage any of it but have only scuffed a bit of crap off it.

Because all the holes have been filled in with mud/gravel etc ;)
I'm guessing the oil filter came off, hence the reason you're giving it away, you're from yorkshire, you dont give anything away.
at least you're ok and the bike will mend (or tape back together with added cable ties) it could have been much nastier.

Nothing wrong with that road, lovely piece of positive camber at the bottom there, even a groove to get the rear wheel in for extra traction, I reckon the northern poofter bottled it at the last minute, ran wide and lost the back, lowsiding it nicely hence the scrape back across the road. Probably managed to scuff his virgin knee slider as he fell off as well....
Are you going to fit the filter for me as well?
Joe Marcon

He went round bend at 20mph and accelerated out of corner and skidded on gravel, started tank slapping then hit the curb and bent rim and flew to the other side of road and hit wall where im stood . I was rather shocked when it happend . And pulled over and helped him . Ur bike doesnt actually smash at any point . Just bounced of all walls . Glad your ok tho mate

Not sure a cornering clinic would have been of any help since I had judged the corner, appreciated the hazards, planned my line around them. Then completely f***ed it by misjudging the placement of the bike to the wrong side of the gravelly hazard instead.
Then had a complete breakdown of skill and failed to recover the slide* before hitting the kerb. I think by the time I was airborne, with a deflated front tyre, the situation was unrecoverable.
Of course this could have been avoided by negotiating the corner at 6mph. However when I get to that point I'll go buy a ford ka, or shoot myself. Basically the same...
*I think the chances of this were 50/50 at best. Possibly 60/40 if I was in practice and at my best.

So if 6mph was the appropriate speed for the situation,, why run the risk of falling off by riding a little faster and totally misjudge the lot? Out of practise....remind me..when was the last time you came off? Do you like bending forks and hurting?
and here's me thinking that the bike got locked into the magnetic field of the underground water pipe starting at the initial grid. Your steering input was useless by this point, the pipe controlled your route ;-)
The bridge troll knew this and obviously strategically placed a neat gravel pile on top of said pipe field. No escape, it was always going to happen that way ;-)

My speed was not inappropriate, I missed the clear strip of road and hit the gravel. You can go round there a lot faster than I was doing if you get it right.
At this point I wasn't pushing it or going like a nutter... so do us a favour and file the patronising speech under "DILLIGAF" or something. I posted this for a bit of a laugh and maybe a few people will see the bit of wall I missed and think "hmmm I'll be a bit more careful next time".
I last fell off in December. This ain't the first and probably won't be the last.

So, I'll let all the strangers on here massage your ego into thinking its funny and acceptable to fall off once again.
You might think its all fun and games. But someone I don't know hit a sapling tree last week, and died. Hes not here to laugh about it now.
next time you do it, you may be sat up there with him, thinking fookin hell, she only patronised because she was man enough to care.
I can't file it under DILLIGAF....because contrary to belief I actually GAF. ;)
As bananaman said....

Just for effect:

See where the kerb starts, it's not obvious here but the wall is holding up big stones which stick out 4-6" from the line of the rest of the wall. I think that is actually what squashed my foot a bit and why my knee hurts.
Could have gone very very wrong, very easily. Probably a foot of difference in where it went wrong between bouncing down the road or bouncing off that corner of wall at chest height. That would really have ruined my entire afternoon that.

my old GB moto ones held up fine, held my bike up as well, just snapped the leaver when i binned it and bent the hanging plate but at least stopped the rest of the bike getting wreaked :/
To bad about the bike YC now go give it a good clean to see if theres any underlying damage hidden by all the carp ;)

only thing i found is that the bearings rust, so i replaced them with stainless ones but at £7 each not that cheep for all 4
Oil in the road just to the right of the pot hole, binned it in the bend after hitting the oil then the gravel, bounced on the wall or was lucky enough not to hit but bike did a 180* on the road and then layed up against the other wall.
underware definitely in need of replacing.
oil cooler busted (if it's a pointy), generator cover toasted, gear peg and riders foot rest gone, passenger foot rest bent, exhaust scratched/broke, scrapes and other minor damage to rear plastics and the tank may be dented and scratched.
helmet/leathers also in need of replacing.

Oil in the road just to the right of the pot hole, binned it in the bend after hitting the oil then the gravel, bounced on the wall or was lucky enough not to hit but bike did a 180* on the road and then layed up against the other wall.
underware definitely in need of replacing.
oil cooler busted (if it's a pointy), generator cover toasted, gear peg and riders foot rest gone, passenger foot rest bent, exhaust scratched/broke, scrapes and other minor damage to rear plastics and the tank may be dented and scratched.
helmet/leathers also in need of replacing.
do i win?
No.

You reckon that'll T cut out?
I find it amusing that the emergency fender extender we made back in 2008 has lasted longer than the front wheel.
