It's a hose pipe ban.
Bizarrely enough it doesn't matter where the water comes from you just can't use a hose pipe!!
Essentially there is no restriction on the amount of water you use, just the delivery system. Weird eh?
Can't you use vodka :confused:

Good point. So parking next to the tap and doing the old "cover it with your finger and spray it out as if you were trying to soak your best mate like when you were 12" would be perfectly legal. Not very convenient though. :rolleyes:

I always thought you could use a hosepipe on your bike but not car. Ofwat still mentions a private motor car but the water companies have expanded it themselves ti private motor vehicle. Not sure my chrome likes wee wee

Not strictly true, Thames water have said you cannot draw off water for leisure purposes (i.e washing cars, filling paddling pools etc) which includes hoses and filling buckets in the house and taking them outside, the only way round it is to use a water butt or something.

This is Thames Water's latest Hosepipe ban regulations, updated yesterday:
Thames Water Utilities Limited gives notice to all of its customers, that the potable* water it supplies throughout its entire area must not be used for the following purposes:
watering a ‘garden’ using a hosepipe;
cleaning a private motor-vehicle using a hosepipe;
watering plants on domestic or other non-commercial premises using a hosepipe;
cleaning a private leisure boat using a hosepipe;
filling or maintaining a domestic swimming or paddling pool;
drawing water, using a hosepipe, for domestic recreational use;
filling or maintaining a domestic pond using a hosepipe;
filling or maintaining an ornamental fountain;
cleaning walls, or windows, of domestic premises using a hosepipe;
cleaning paths or patios using a hosepipe;
cleaning other artificial outdoor surfaces using a hosepipe.
No mention of not using Buckets. It's all about the hose pipe. And no mention of what the water can or cannot be used for.

just an FYI from thames water:
Can I wash the following using a hosepipe: Car, motorbike, taxi, company car, caravan, trailer? (http://www.thameswater.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/corp/hs.xsl/15420.htm#) Under the Temporary Use Ban you can not wash any of the above with a hosepipe or similar apparatus. You can however use a bucket, as long as you do not fill it using a hosepipe.
If your vehicle or its trailer is a “goods vehicle” (i.e. constructed or adapted for use for the carriage of goods) then it is not affected by the ban, but we ask that all our customers use water sparingly.

I suspect this is because most commercial trailers have advertising on them and you could probably claim some sort of 'right' to be able to show your advertising on the trailer, or if it is a works vehicle for building site or farm you may be spreading mud all over the road if you do not wash it off. Now to be fair we are the first to complain if we hit a muddy patch on the road due to a tractor leaving it there.

personally im more interested in the fact you can still wash your vehicle but only using a bucket which has not been filled by a hosepipe. the rest was just the remaining answer they posted on their website
can we use this?
