Was riding home after sleeping at my Girlfriends. this morning and i saw a guy on his race push bike (them with skinny tires) he was leant on wall clinging to his bike . So i spun bike round and help him . He started weezing like mad and eyes rolling in his head going in and out of cautiousness . He was holding him self up with bike . So i moved bike and got him to the floor and put him in recovery position and phoned for ambulance . Started to re assure him as he came back round . And a few moments go back into this fit of weezing and loss of strength. I was scared . But managed to keep him ok till ambulance. He was called david gill aged 55 from featherstone . And i hope you get better

Sounds like a heart attack or maybe asthma. Good work mate. Sounds like you did exactly the right thing. Good on you!

Good work.

Both my wife and I trained as first aiders and it's good to know how to react.

You did the right thing, moving him out of any danger and reassuring him, whilst phoning for an ambulance, and it feels good to help.

A mate of mine did a first aid course at work and a few weeks later revivied a 2 year old child who had drowned in a pool on holiday. The kid's Father still sends him cards on the anniversary and that was 9 years ago.

The only let down (if there is such a thing in these circumstances) is that you never really feel closure until you find out how he got on.

You quite possibly saved his life today, and if you never achieved (or ever will achieve) anything else in your life;- YOUR life saved another and so has been worth it, everything else you do is just gravy. :rave:

i know i will find out soon if he made it out of hospital , fingers crossed.
loads of people went passed in cars just watched and not help . i would always stop to help someone who looks like they need it.
just glad i could help the public and hope i get it in return if i ever need it in future

Well done Joe. Good for you. There's so many wasters and slackers out there that wouldn't be responsible or thoughtful enough to do what you did.

What happened to his Bike? I need one. If you have it pm me. Thanks

I know how you feel Joe, the other day I helped an old guy..

He was in a shop doorway hanging onto the side and said "excuse me do you mind just helping me get down the street, my legs have packed in and I can't get going again" - I linked up with him bridge & groom stylee, walked him slowly down the street before he said "right just let me get in this doorway and I'll be fine" = it was the doorway to a pub which had blazing karaoke going at 2 in the afternoon!

I had to pretend I didn't mind the smell of cheesy pish as well...... was half expecting a tv crew to run out of no where and congratulate me with a cheque for £500 or something. Nop, he was just an imobilised bum.

Classy place is Bridlington ;) well done @ stopping to help the guy though :thumleft:

Haha . What pub in brid was this ? And my mum and dad have a house in brid on horseforth avenue near spa theatre

Similar Story to your's Paul but it happens much more regulary to me. I have an old blind guy who lives down the street from me. Goes to the pub at midday and is pished by 4-5pm and staggers off home. I help him down the street when I see him as he can hardly walk, is blind and decides to walk in the road.
Whenever I help him home he just winges and complains that he's got no money and that the allowance and pension he's got isn't enough.
It f**kin would be if you didn't spend £20 every day in the pub!!

Don't all cyclists do this? Sometimes going as far a total recklessness

Kudos for helping the guy, How do people go on about doing a first aid course? can you just do it off your own back or is it just through your employer etc, ive always wanted to do something like that, even though it may never come in handy it would only take helping one person to be worth it. On the other hand, if someone had a serious accident or something and you tried helping and they died later on then it would be a bit grim. My birds step father knows all the first aid stuff as he's a chef for the police, he told me that once up at sherburn (at the bridge before the cafe) some guy came off his bike and he tried to help him but as he was doing the chest compressions it was like pushing jelly and the guy had blood in his eyes etc so it was a pretty bad crash and he died at the scene when the ambulance arrived, He went home after that and think he cried, kept having nightmares about it and I think he had to see some head doctor in the end to stop thinkig about it. If you had to help out with something like that, in a way it would be best to not know anything about first aid and take a back seat, but then again theres always the chance you could help out and save a life.

Kudos again Mr joe

Danny.

Ive done first aid a few times with different jobs . But yeh im trying to find out if the guy made it . Cause i'll be gutted if he dies. Been alot at sherburn cafe that die . Some of bikers ar silly . Just wanna wheelie and bam there fighting for there life . I go sherburn alot and everytime theres always a near miss or something that happens cause of silly things . People go too fast into the bridge . Sherburn cafe needs re locating as its bad bends and tunnel taking lives. Thanks mate

Some jobs train their staff in First Aid for events like Joe came across.

But if you want to do it yourself, then the St John's Ambulance probably do courses for Joe Public.

Its well worth going, as some of things you're taught are so simple, but very effective.

I'm lucky as I've had loads of training in this area, but a lot of it is stuff we did on our initial first aid course, it doesn't change that much.

Nice one Joe. Very commendable.
I did a 1st aid course for selfish reasons (had kids) but so glad I did it. I would hope I never need to use the things I learnt, but good to have it there to call on.
Well done.

To be fair to Brid, I've only gone drinking there with my Mum, so probably not the best tour guide. :smt069

I know Brid quite well though. I used to go there for my Summer Holidays as a kid. Back then we thought going abroad was visiting Scotland. Oh how times have changed.

The pub was the one opposite where mcdonalds used to be in the town centre 'The New Inn', always has karaoake blasting from around 1pm on a saturday afternoon til midnight.

McDonalds has gone, Burger King has gone, lots of shop units empty... and the remaining shops and restaurants are in desperate need of some money to get them looking smart again..

Been to Hook & Parrot and the loop a few times. The bouncers beat the shiit out of a guy at Loop one night, I got caught in the back end of it trying to get the guy talking whilst on the phone to 999 for an ambulance. Police were on first name terms with the bouncers and more or less laughed the whole thing off. I was covered in the guys blood & p*ss and the bouncers were standing round saying loudly "We put him to sleep and he deserved it".

Aye it's a grim place. Used to go every summer as a kid and it was the most amazing place in the world with the powerboat speedboat rides for £2.50, the forum arcade with all the latest driving & shooting games & cinema, fresh fish n chips, the lynx golf course & the driving range, going upto flamborough head to the lighthouse and the lifeboat launch centre, sun burn after playing on the beach all day, bbq's at night and camping in our caravan/tents.

The town centre is a desperately depressing place now :reaper:
