View Full Version : Anyone got a Galaxy S II on Vodafone?
If so have you managed to download the over the air ICS update yes?
I can't use Keis to update my phone so am relying on the OTA update, it was supposed to be released on Tuesday. On Wednesday I got an alert saying it was available but I wanted to wait till I was on Wi-Fi do download it so I cancelled the alert.
Now whenever I check for an update it says no update found.
Yer yer iphone blah de blah

I downloaded ice cream on my galaxy s2 over air, ie wifi, takes about 14mins to download, 3mins or so to install. im on Vodafone contract. Phone is a sim free i bought new 6months ago. I got that notification too, but i didn't click on it till i was at home(wifi). Its very simple process, just click on update and it does it all flawlessly-download, uninstall/install, take screenshots of your apps layout on your screens as it'll load default ones on which you'll wanna replace with your own/old layout. I've heard horror stories with Kies, stay well clear!
My opinion of the ice cream update......It'll take a day to get used to it all, like learning a new mobile, lots of new shortcuts and places where things were in menus have been moved, shortcuts added, screen capture is now 'hold down volume and power key for 1 second', my 4 email accounts weren't updating even tho passwords etc were correct so i deleted them all and then added them and all is fine.
No difference to camera, lots more things to adjust/play with. Internet doesn't seem any quicker, slightly different layout, i prefere the old menus tbh, and old contacts list.
Biggest benefit is battery life seems much better! Yay!, Google Chrome Beta is an alternative to the built in web browser, and is ok but i found scrolling to be really juddery so don't use it much.
There's the ability to have a warning flag up when approaching ur data allowance, and also you can set a limit to disconnect data connection when it reaches your monthly limit. Save you going over.
tbh i prefere the old gingerbread as i didn't want for any more settings to play with(vibrate-how intense?, screen unlock-face unlock(takes a pic of your face, to unlock ur phone just look at it and it recognises your features)etc, lots of stuff to play with but i do like the better battery life!

I unfortunately have a Carphone Warehouse version on mine. I might flash it to a sim-free version as CPW seem less than adept at getting firmware out for their phones in a timely fashion.

So the CPW version of the firmware does exist and is really to roll but for whatever reason CPW have not pushed it out yet.
I should just root it really and install some home brew version but the USB port on the phone is playing up. Can you install it from the SD card?

My phone is downloading ICS now as I type this so those proud Samsung Galaxy SII owners should now be able to perform the update from their phones. :)
