A little brain teaser for a Friday afternoon. Don't cheat, use your brain. Post your answers but please don't give the solution away or you'll ruin it for the others.

I have a higher level of education, I went to two universities to study drinking and Sha**in* and I think that the answer is two.

Am I right?

Bibio

tigersaw

I obviously have the brain of a pre-school child.

I'd say that the answer is 2.

Well I got the answer off someone else. I was looking for something far too difficult. Left to my own devices i'd have still been sitting here sunday trying to work it out.

Arghhh, that got right on my titties!! ;D I had to cheat. I spend all day working with numbers. I can't look at them like pre-schoolers do!

5.8·10^73

Obviously a false equation, both sides aren't equal in any case. This means we have infinite amount of possibilities. If you use the polynomial of N points corresponding to the trend where f(xi) = yi and (i E N..-1), a graph plot gives a value at x=2581 of 5.8x10^73

..I believe

That's exactly what my pre-schooler said too.

mine usually said 'get out the class your annoying everyone'. i also had a chair outside the heads office with my name carved on it :-)

Jayneflakes

Being a complete child, it took me two minutes, however when I showed it to the wife, she was baffled until I explained it. It is much easier when you stop working in base ten!

:D

Bibio

i actually come to the correct answer in my head straight off but being a numpty with dyslexia my brain decided NO it can't be that simple so i went about looking for another answer and convinced myself that it was correct.

does anyone else on here have wars going on in their brain like to people arguing when you try and figure something out?

Bibio
20-04-12, 07:24 PM
ooohhh and if anyone is interested in arithmetic heave a read of this

i had the book once and it's so feckin simple.

After reams of A4 thrown, nay hurled to a quickly growing mountain in the corner of my office the light finally dawned.

Where do I sign up for play school :-(

put yourself in the mind of a six year old and limit your thinking to what they might know (or more importantly what they wouldn't know). It's your knowledge that clouds how you look at it.

Mrs DJ Fridge
20-04-12, 09:03 PM
The answer is 2, so simple, just like me, DJ is tearing his hair out (or would be if he had any)

DJFridge
20-04-12, 09:05 PM
Aha, just tumbled it. That was evil, my brain is really hurting now from trying to work it out when I just needed to switch my brain off completely and look at the patterns, not the pattern.

Well, that's 15 mins of my life wasted and I'm still none the wiser.

But I have disproved the "intelligent people struggle thing - thicko's struggle too.

Not a clue.
Had to cheat. Even then it took me a minute.
Way over thinking but probably due to my absolute hate of fricking math. :smt019

about 20 minutes it took but I did have the clue from here not to think in base 10 which made it very easy :-)

There are 2 solutions (providing the same result), one already cited, anther using substitution.
I do like puzzles.

oooooooooooo. Thats not how I worked it out, but yea, easy peasy.

No that would be 12.

Damm once I got it 2. The clue is in the pattern, not the number values.

Damm got to the second page and realised the method had been revealed

baffled me so much just cheated but once i knew its seemed so obvious look at it like a child would then the mathematics of the problem as easy to see so no matter if the numbers were in a different random order i would /should be able to figure it very quickly. :study:
