View Full Version : Bolts and screws coming loose!

Right now I've learnt my lesson I will use Loctite in future.. So no need for THOSE comments :P

Okay so I've got an SK4 and have owned it for around a year, and I've never had an issue with things coming loose till recently, I lost my right hand side bar end, the right hand side radiator lower fairing bolt and one of my hugger screws.

First question is pro-bolt do stainless steel replacement bolts, but will they look the same as the others? As in the rounded head ect.

Second question since fitting the gsxr clip-ons i've never been able to get a tight fit on the bar end on the right, if I tighten it too much it stops the throttle returning, and if not then it comes loose and falls out (as happened), is there a quick fix for this? I've got a spare bar end but I can't fit it without it being loose.

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense I've just written what my thoughts are, hope you can help me!

Thanks!

the only place that does OEM bolts to match the rest are suzuki who charge a fortune for them.

why not change them all for something more readily available/industry standard and are cheep as chips.

If your bar end is touching the throttle tube then you need to move the throttle assembly over

See now the problem with that it the clip-ons are gsxr ones and I can't move the throttle assembly over at all, could I get a new throttle grip?

Is that because you are using the gsxr switchgear locating hole on the clip-on? Or is there just not enough space? If it's cos of the hole, just snap the plastic lug off and wrap some tape round the bar for the assembly to clamp on.

Dunno about new grips. You'd have to shave a bit off the end of the throttle tube, and the grip. Might look a bit ruff in the jungle

Couldn't you just put some washers on the bar end bolt to hold it a bit further away?

Hope those images work, that is what the set-up is at the moment.

i cant make out the bottom photo to well but i suspect that there is not enough bar tube to accommodate the throttle tube. try moving the brake MC bracket up as far as you can get it then move the switchgear along as far as you can get it (drill a new hole for the locating pin if you have to) this should give you enough length on the bar tube. you have taken the bar end out of the bung which is never a good idea as now you have to get the bung out and attach the nut that sits on the end, always loosen the bar ends then pull them off.

another thing i have noticed is that you have put the bars on top of the yokes. depending on what forks you have you could potentially be dropping the front by 30mm+

The bar end fell off, I didn't take it out! But I'm sure I'll be able to get the bung out..

On the note of handlebars on top of yokes, they are gsxr 1000 k4 upside down forks

Are they the right way around? I didn't fit them, I just thought they looked right!

they wont fit under the yoke. i'll give you and idea as to how much you have lowered the front. the forks you have a 15mm shorter than the sv to begin with and that would be the tops of the forks at the top of the yoke add to that the yoke protector at another 3mm then the hight of the bar bracket (30mm?) and you are reaching near enough 50mm hight difference.

i'm sure those forks are 50mm tube size so a pair of TL clipons might be better

is your bike a bit twitchy when riding it by chance?

I appreciate the explanation there, the TL1000 clip-ons look very similar although I will give them a try if you think it'll help...

As for the bike being twitchy.. It's difficult to say. I ride it everyday to work or just for fun and have got used to the way it rides, I've never ridden any other bike so whether I've just gotten used to the problem or the bike handles fine I don't know!

Re the forks, Bladder 'eck!!

As Bibio has already mentioned, the forks are already shorter than the originals .

I'm willing to bet, the bike would actually handle/ride better if you put them back to were they should be.

Has the bike been lowered at the rear as well?

Do yourself a favour mate and check, you haven't got any parts that shouldn't be, making contact with themselves, under full compression of the forks.
