Brilliant film Fizz. Good find. I remember watching this on a Sunday when it was serialised...my dad loved it. I'd just joined boats not long before and empathised somewhat...still do I suppose. I can almost smell that diesel.....




Edit...it's loosely based on the memoirs of the war correspondent that appears on this particular vessel. I think it portrays the submariner ethos and camaraderie quite well.

A very good read IMHO. But you dont get that feeling of claustrophobia and fear from the book, the film portrays that side of it really well I think.

Youngest was going round the house going "You're only supposed to blow the bl00dy doors off" before bed tonight, I was doing my best not to laugh at him. That would be The Italian Job, not Das Boot.
