came back from a night ride last night about 2.30, busting for the loo, so disc lock on steering lock on, alarm set; I dash in, stick the kettle one and wander out half an hour later.....
It's gone...., yep the superduke was stolen, didn't hear a thing, whilst traffic is always a background noise (no matter what time) the alarm or engine starting would have been loud, but not a peep was heard and all within 30 minutes. I'd been riding through the rain and pulled up with wet tyres so tracks lead to my parking spot, but none lead away, no sign of busted locks or debris, even my bungied bag on the pillion seat was gone (flask, waterproofs odds and ends in it).
I doubt it'll ever be seen again, but if anyone sees an black KTM superduke with a bright red Aprillia front wheel let me know, Oh the reg is HF08 UEL (Yes if you take the numbers out and first letter it spells "fuel").
Cheers Mark.
Absolutely gutted for you, best of luck getting it back etc!...
BARSTEWARDS!!
Sorry to read this Mark. Hope you get some good news...

Well that sucks :(
Gutted for you, I hope their balls rot away slowly with maximum pain.
Obviously a van pick then? Seems to be the way lately, unless it's chained to an anchor, no alarm or lock is gonna stop them, just pick it up, lay it down on the mattress they have in the back.
Anyone got CCTV in your street?
rictus01
25-04-12, 08:00 AM
it's normally chained to the iron drain in the road, but not at that moment it wasn't...:smt102, and no cctv coverage either.

Mark, have a little pootle down the roads around yours and see if any of the businesses, pubs etc have CCTV outside. A few nice words and the narrowness of the time frame may persuade them to let you have a look at the tapes for any possible vans.
rictus01
25-04-12, 08:23 AM
Unfortunately Clare nothing like that down my road and a main roads at either end, still the insurance girl was helpful, got to wait for the call back to go over the details.
Shellywoozle
25-04-12, 08:25 AM
Gutted for you.
All I can say is it was picked up by hand and loaded into a van. I have investigated loads of bike thefts and those caught on CCTV show a van, 2 people literally picking the bike up and loading into a van.
Takes 30 seconds at most. Hope you see her again mate x

Makes me sick the bar stools. you can put all security on you want but when they do this it may as well be left with the keys in.
Ebay is the next thing to watch, don't want to stick knife in but most likely will be stripped and sold as parts. See if anyone local to you has listed Duke parts ;/
Littlepeahead
25-04-12, 08:38 AM
When I bought the SV they asked if I wanted an alarm fitted - cost about £350, reduction in insurance £14. Insurer said that if the bike is in the garage or overnight at work where we have locked gates and security men then an alarm wasn't worth having as if they really want the bike they just pop it onto a van, alarmed or not.
Are there any KTM or Duke forums where someone might try to sell the parts?

Sorry to hear this. What a bunch of lowlife scum :-(
I really, really hope you get it back.
set yourself a search alert for parts on Ebay, it will email you whenever new parts arrive on the list.

If you do find anything on flea bay you think is yours don't buy them yourself tho, no matter how tempting. Let the police officer know straight away and let them deal, they may have their own procedures, I know our force do.
I had someone try and buy their own push bike back, asking seller questions, suddenly the listing disappeared and any hope of finding the bike and tracing the seller

suzuki sales guy advised my sister NOT to think about getting the adventure type bike due to them being so easy to steal, strip and sell - even garaged, the thieving barstewards arent perturbed - used an anglegrinder thru a friends garage door - took the offroad bike and left the CBF - cctv showed the whole episode lasted all of 30 seconds.. they clearly know what they doing!!

I have posted a status and if you are a friend of a friend, and can share please go ahead, I'd twitter it too but I've yet to get off the novice stage on that one  Also posted on the Raptor Chapter, as its an international audience.
HELP FIND my dear friends bike. Stolen in the night around 3am from South London. A very distinctive KTM SuperDuke, with the reg HF08 UEL. Its not a standard vehicle, and has some custom features.

I've shared on facebook and twitter. Only problem with having such a distinctive bike, sucks you should be the one getting punished for it. Absolutely gutted to read it this morning, I know it's only a bike at the end of the day but if mine was lifted I really don't know what I'd do, she's all I've got!
They left the Triumph alone then Mark?

datatag on the frame and stuff and the two main panels are from the earlier version so been modded to fit mine, I doubt I'd actually go around if I was to find any parts, but it doesn't hurt to ask to, that way I'd get an address.

I have shared the image and info on the Biker Rock Radio Facebook page too. It is not much, but you never know. Good luck with finding your bike again and although I do not wish bad things on people usually, I do hope that bike thieves get what is coming to them, namely a damn good kicking and a court date.
Sending hugs, if you loved your bike as much as I love mine, you are gutted.
Shared with the group Tarmac Terrorists too.

Police work with ebay to get info from them, but as you can.imagine the paperwork and time involved, but it can be done.
Fingers crossed for a happy ending x

thanks all, to be honest I'm not sure how I feel,On the one hand I loath people messing with my bikes, they get a lot of my time and effort keeping them in good condition and reward me with many enjoyable miles, on the other it's a bike at the end of the day, it was insured and can be replaced, pi**ed off and angry would cover it just now, but I dare say that will settle in time.

You'd certainly done more to it since the last time I saw it Mark, black plastics and the aprilia wheel...or did you just get a new one?
Hope their testicles turn into oxo cubes and their kids turn out beef.
I do not know where i get my inspiration from but it's probably somewhere very dark and very dusty.
Hope you find your bike.
will keep a look out round here. gutting hope it gets found
gutted for ya mate. i hate bike thief's they just cause misery.
Mark, I'm so so sorry to hear this. I'll keep everything crossed that it gets found. Hugs.
That sucks! I hate bike thieves. Hopefully someone will see something. Any CCTV in your area, thieves would have had to be in a van of some sort and at 2.30am I can't imagine there'd be many vans on the road.
Feel for you, I had a car pinched once and know the feeling. Obviously an organised lift.
Public disembowelling seems a firm but fair penalty.

I like this. Although I would prefer to see their light fingers superglued to a rear tyre, closely followed by somebody hitting a burnout
Or as an alternative just nail their nuts to it instead!
Bad bad people.

Mark, I am so sorry to hear this. It's a truly gut wrenching feeling when you realise you have been robbed and I hope you are ok.
You never know...it might turn up yet, but I am amazed the alarm wasn't triggered. They must have been very well organised and very quick. I wonder if they knew the bike and were just waiting for you to get back so that they could take it. You are lucky though. When an old friend of mine had a car stolen in similar circumstances in Bristol a few years back, he didn't go in to make a brew. He was smacked over the head with a bottle jack so that they could drive the car off, so at least it is just the bike that is gone and no harm came to you.
Thieving scum...deserve everything they will hopefully get one day.
It's all been said in the Above posts Bud :0(
Gutting News of the first order.
Will keep a look out up here in the North East.
Time to visit a few bike dealerships tomorrow and Friday me thinks.

You may say it is only a bike but it is your bike and scum have no right to just take something that does not belong to them.
I think i read that you have another bike as well. make sure that it is well secured in case they decide to return for that one.

Doesn't sound opportunistic if it's normally chained to a drain, as Ricky says make sure your other one is extra secure. Sorry, hope you get it back.

Sounds like a 'professional job' i.e targetted. Round here they select their targets and patrol in freezer vans that they can just chuck the bike in, kills the noise dead as soon as the doors are closed.
Bad luck, hope it turns up unscathed.

Was just looking a this and then for some reason instead of a tracker which can be pricey put on the bike what about an old cheap smartphone for them bike emergencies stored in the rear seat undertray with google latitude installed with the history logging? Within seconds you can get online and wait for trace updates, possible cctv sightings and eventually the ending address until they break the bike. This is an idea I may take up...

Most likely shipped out in a container with a load of other stolen bikes to somewhere it can't be traced, from what I've read about these thefts is Eastern European gangs doing this.
Our local force look out for stolen cars being shipped out in containers, and its big business, always high value & desirable cars, so a Super Duke would be worth shipping out as it fits this criteria.

Quite often the cars are shipped intact, inside the container.
Must be quite easy, drive the car into container (container is on the floor), secure car, lift container onto lorry, take to docks, take to Umbongo land

yeah I've consigned the superduke to history, it was a fabulous bike, but after 24,000 miles I would have been moving on soon anyway, I've already got something completely different to fill the void and am enjoying it.
