Here I go again........... I have found myself with too many bikes and still nothing that I can or am prepared to use for commuting. That and running out of space to keep them!

I recently bought a lovely 2004 SV650S for commuting but quickly found that it pops out a couple of vertebrae between my shoulders. I should have known and bought a naked as that's exactly why I sold my 2002 some time ago....

Anyway, last year I had already set out to get an SV650 naked; trouble was I found and bought a 2008 SV1000 Classic...... it seemed like a good idea at the time and I have spent a bit bringing it to my standards which I won't be getting back. I have deceided to bite the bullet and sell both the 650 and the 1000 to get a bike I know I can and will use daily. I have been offered a pretty good deal for them against what i'm after (the 650 in particular) but I think I should see a bit more for the 1000 - and I want to give someone the chance to buy it for that 'bit more' rather then let it go to the dealer.

So, here are the basic details and I welcome comments/advise:

2008/08 SV1000 Classic
Black (and naked, as they all were)
Just over 9000 miles
Puig screen, Beowulf exhausts (plus originals), R&G tail tidy, HEL braided brake and clutch lines, round bar-end mirrors (plus originals)
Service book only has stamps for 600 miles, 5000 miles then again at 8900 when I had the local dealer give it a real top-to-bottom including ALL fluids when I bought it privately last May. it was MOT'd then too and has done probably 300 miles since; I will sell with a new MOT.
Tyres and all service items are probably half-worn, the lads fitted a new chain when I had work done as the old one was partially seized; the lad who had it lost his job and had stored it for a few months in his Uncle's garage. The hugger is also cracked and wants replacing really as it allows some chain oil to be flung at the tyrewall!!!
The bike had been used in rain as well as sunshine so isn't 'mint' and there are some blemishes, small scuffs to plastic work basically. It is by no means rough!

I think that sums it up; depending what you guys think I may turn this into a full 'for sale' post. I'm hoping to see close to £3000; I paid that and have spent around £600 on it altogether, I realise the market for a naked 1000 is limited but I have the dealer's offer to fall back on.

Any comments on the value before I let the dealer have it?

Wish my dealers would offer some cash for mine ! My 650 gets 1.8-2.2 book price 2004 with 4.8k miles , so if u got te right buyer I'd say u could scrape a little over 3 grand , what's the dealer offering ?

Sorry, I should have said that; dealer is offering £2500 but also £2000 for my nearly-mint 2004 SV650S and £500 off what I'm buying.

I think it's a decent deal all-round but he only has one margin and is giving me some off as well as a good price for the 650; nice as the 650 is I can't see me getting more privately so haven't even tried, too much hassle.

But the 1000 I felt might get me a couple or so hundred pounds more and even if I keep it another year (as my heart tells me to) I can maybe still see £2500, or keep it if money allows. Thanks guys.

Sounds like the dealer is actually giving you a good decent offer. If the new bike is what you want then i'd say go for it! I've found when i start contemplating selling a motorbike i own, it usually means as much as i like it at the time, its the right thing to do. And when you have your new toy sitting there i doubt you'll regret doing it.

is a couple of hundred more really worth the agro selling private? you might sell it as soon as you advertise it but you could spend hours with complete wasters.
