View Full Version : Tips for breakdown and personal insurance
I'm off to France for a few days on the bike. I've got international insurance in with my main bike policy and an E111 but need any recommendations for personal cover to include damaging myself while riding bikes over 125cc and also international breakdown cover. Anyone got any recommendations or horror stories?

E111 has been replaced by a EHIC card a while ago.

I use insure with ease. Think you have to get their top level cover to cover riding bikes.
Never had to make a claim though
Not personal experience but I did note that several of the major european tour companies (MCI tours for example) recommend goldcover
goldcover.net
That may count for something.

I used M&S travel insurance, underwritten by AXA but it has slightly higher claim limits than AXA insurance bought through other brokers
I double checked and it covered me for riding the motorcycle - which alot of others wouldn't - as standard, no extra charge. Their wording goes like 'driving any motorised vehicle for which you are licensed to drive in the United Kingdom', page 20

I never had to make a claim so wouldnt know anything of that side of things. I am using them again for multitrip insurance this year.

The M&S travel insurance was dirt cheap in the end especially if you de-select the volcanic ash options. And they cover a big bike as standard so long as you're not racing it.
Got breakdown through vehicle rescue direct
Didn't have to use either so can't vouch for customer service but both were much cheaper than the other companies.

I have never really spent much time in France, just using the E40 to get to Belgium/Holland and onto Germany.
