Thanks to bibio for the kit to do this. heres how it looks...

I'll be using the old spring clips that held the old caps on, they needed stretched to make them smaller as the new hose was a slightly smaller diameter.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7108/6976040000_1b8ec20d2d.jpg

so, tank propped up, air filter housing removed, throttle body removed and tops of the engine plugged to stop anything from dropping in, rear throttle body vacuum pipe end ready for fitting... and fitted new hose. Front throttle body prepped...

Done.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7209/7122099625_12b6ab32e0_z.jpg

Engine inlet rags removed, throttle body re-fitted, air filter housing re-fitted. Throttle body extension hoses routed out. Current balance shown... yeah its out.

After much revving, adjusting, holding the revs, adjusting, revving, adjusting etc..... it was balanced.
Things to note:
*The adjuster screw is made of cheese (possible mod)
*It takes next to nothing to turn the screw and for it to be in/out.

Extender kit tidied away until the next time and for the the tank to be refitted.

Glad its done now. Its a pig of a job upsetting and taking all that stuff off just to do something that takes a short time. I dont like moving that stuff around. If it aint broke and all that...

nice one m8. glad you liked them. it'll make doing a balance a lot easier in the future.

Ta bud. I wasnt sure about the hole drilling to store them so I figured the tiewrap was the next best thing.

which ever is easier for you. i just drilled a hole on top of the air box and used the well nut that way it's right in front of my face when i lift the tank :-)

i might get a pic when i have the tank up next.

Just been out, what a difference. Night and day. Dodgy gear changes, general jumpiness. Gone. :)

After knowing what the bike sounds like before and after it would be easy to spot. A big pat on the back to those who can do this by ear btw.

Biblio would you be so nice to assemble a set to be sold and shipped to the City...? I'd really need to rebalance the throttle body but i never have time to take all the measures and go finding the right parts...... thanks! :D

i see no reason why not. you will still need a vacuum gauge to do the actual balancing. these are only an extension to make balancing easier in future.

one more thing. you cannot balance the TB's on twin spark bikes e.g. 2007 onwards without an OBD tool as you need to shut off the auto idle.

Lance - how much for one of these for me also (you could post it out with the adjuster plates)?

As you know, I have an OBD tool, but I still don't understand why you can't just disconnect the ISC (unless the ECU requires some signal from it even when it's shut-off)

Bibio
30-04-12, 02:04 PM
will do m8.

if you disconnect the ISC then the bike will stall as far as i'm aware due to the fact that the valve will be fully closed. the OBD tool sets the ECU so the valve is at a position and stops it moving allowing a constant idle so fluctuations via vacuum do not effect the value otherwise the ISC would try and compensate for the fluctuation. older models use the butterfly to control the vacuum where the twinsparks use an air galley (or what ever it's called) controlled by a needle much like a mixture screw.

ooohhh price.. i'll work on it but it's not much. the expensive part is the well nut believe it or not.

If you're making these up... another interested party here. I need this done on mine and might as well fit some extensions while i'm at it :)

i think so as i have various bits and pieces that no one else does and i'm sure the org'ers would love them.

...........................

anyway i have been doing a few sums and it's working out at £3.49 + P&P. depending on how quick you want then then i know fist class will be £2.20 inc the jiffy (blame the PO) second class will be cheaper.

if i sell 100 of these i might make enough for a day out if i sell 600 i might just get a new rear tyre  ;) :D

Ive told him that too. The throttle extension kit made to a universal length would suit a few models. Not just the sv.

It's certainly a fiddly job, but I've never had that much trouble connecting vacuum gauges to a Pointy.

Now the front cylinder on a Curvy is a different matter.

Which is why I haven't done mine yet :D

if i could find a source of unequal T's i could do the curvy's as well.

i find it easier just to take the airbox and carbs off rather than guddle about behind radiators and getting your hands cut to bits.

I've put some extension vacuum pipes on my curvy but it's not the tidiest looking job. If you were thinking of doing some for the curvy then I'd certainly be up for a pair Bibio.

hi, my pointy is a 2003 and i think i'll buy the same balancer showed in the picture (around 50 quid on ebay), but having the extension will make the procedure easier letting me doing it more frequently (never done in 40k and something km!) but it definitely needs to be done now!!
Let me know about the price and everything else..... u definitely got a pint on me!:smt023

working on it.. just got to make a few phone calls for reducer T's

Bibio

another thing is i need to know if you have a scottoiler as i need to insert a T into one of the lines to feed the vacuum for the oilier.

I have found a supplier (at a good price) for the reducer T's for the curvy owners so if there is enough interest i will make these kits up.

at the moment i have enough materials for 3 pointy kits with or without the oilier T piece

Pointy:
Standard Kit = £3.49 + P&P
With Oilier T = £4.39 + P&P

Curvy:
Standard Kit = £4.39 + P&P
With Oiler T = £5.29 + P&P

note for curvy owners. the take off for one of the tails will have a T piece attached at one end which will branch into (cut and insert) the vacuum for the fuel pump as near as you can get to the carb spigot (about 4cm should do). if you require an oilier T then this will be inserted into the other tail.

Postage:
depending on how quick you want then then i know fist class will be £2.20 inc the jiffy (blame the PO) second class will be cheaper.

Hey Bibio, I'd like one if you're doing them :) Are you going to start a new thread for orders or am I being a bit too eager?

EDIT: I guess I should say, Curvy with scottoiler

The Flame

I don't have the scottoiler and second class post is ok (still have to buy the balancer...), then count me in for one of the pointy kit!!!

I'll take a pointy with oiler kit, happy for you to post it with my swingarm plates.

Bibio

i'm going to get into soapy bubble from John i think :-)

anyway. i'll go ahead and order up all the stuff for making both gens up and if it sits about for the next 2 years then so be it as it will only be about a total of enough materials for about 15 kits in total.

so what other little things do people want

update.

i have just ordered everything to do both curvy and pointy. i should be able to post these out by the middle of next week.

i'll put a new thread up for people wanting these. 'Group Buy - Carb/TB permanent extension Tails for balancers'

as a side note: one of the mates was round the other night and seen them and said i should be selling these for no less than £10 and i'm off my feckin head, to which i just laughed :-)

Can you post mine with the adjuster plates as and when? Saves on postage etc.

Happy to pay up front for both, although guess we need to figure out the postage once everyone's signed up to either or both?

Might need a cut-off date to make it easier, i.e. May 15th and everything gets posted out then, although not sure if that works with the dates for the adjuster plates etc.

Bibio

i'll post as orders come in starting from when i receive the parts.

there is no rush m8 just put your name on the list and when your ready to pay just drop me a PM.

same goes for anyone else. i'm in no rush to get the cash i invested back as i reckon they will be sitting around for a bit till someone needs them. i'm doing it for the good of our members than anything.

You'll get a reputation saying things like that! :D

Seriously though, thanks a lot for taking the time to make these kits up. I've thought about balancing the throttle bodies loads of times and then decided against it due to attaching the hoses being such a ballache!

Fitted mine today, not balanced yet as I lack the tool required. Carbtune or equivalent.

I noticed my old tails where crack and split to buggery, should/would this have caused a problem? I also didn't need the T piece for the oiler, mine seems to be connected on to another nipple next to the one the hose goes on :S

Cheers again Bibio
