View Full Version : Ride out this afternoon/early evening?

There is a decent chance it might be fairly dry later on in the afternoon today.

I've spoken to Tomor and he knows some riding routes around the Basingstoke area, so anyone else up for it? Bordtea, you live there so hopefully you can make it :-).

I don't fancy going too far from home i.e London area just in case the weather is bad, as I am still inexperienced and am still getting used to the bike.

Everyone welcome.

Let me know if anyone is up for it, and pm me your mobile number if so, if I haven't already got it.

If the weather doesn't dry I'll still come out I reckon.

Thoughts/suggestions welcome.

Crikey. It's been raining here for 3 weeks too. But nothing like that. It's still the wettest hosepipe ban I remember though lol.

Well I had a rideout with Tomor, and the weather was.... Wet grr.

Never mind, it's all good practice.

Thanks to Tomor for being patient with me as I'm not the fastest rider in the world.

I'll defo be out next weekend if the weather holds out, and if I can get the bike working!

Tomor

Wasn't the best weather but im sure in nicer weather you may be a little more confident. Remember................ RELAX :)
Not bad thought considering you had only been out for around 3 hours on your own!

Tom

Relax is what I need to do. I also need to gain more confidence, but that will come with time hopefully.

And Dan, you need to come out next weekend. Just remember that you two, with your restricted SV's.... Will have to slow down for me lol.

Bordtea
29-04-12, 10:13 PM
Yep I'll be there. Had another play with the SV today and think I've fixed the problem, but we will see tommorow I suppose ;)

well the weather can`t get any worse...

I didn`t go because my garage was flooded - see my other thread I started earlier - Not impressed !! it ruined some of my stuff and i`ll only popped down there to get a mudgaurd. hmmm

Let me know what happens next weekend, I should be about.

If the weather is good then we can take a longer trip that's convenient for all.

However, there is a large cold front coming from my wife at the minute too, so I need to be extra nice to her this week.

just ask her to pop down the road and get a glass hammer, tin of elbow grease and a bubble for a spirit level.
Before shes realised you can nip out on the bike;)

Worked a treat...just once....was worth it though

Unfortunately she knows them all as we do it in work all the time. There's also a left handed screwdriver, camouflage paint, tire pressure gauge for a Challenger Tank and loads more.

The best one though I asking a private to take a hammer to the metal smith, but on the way dropping a note off with the Sergeant Major. When he opens the note in the office it reads "give me the day off or I'll beat you with this hammer".

We got a new private to move about 40 empty mfo boxes from the Tech stores to a garage about 500 mtrs away. The boxes were marked up as "Wireless cables".
The same bloke called the MPGS dog section asking for Cpl Barker

I'm not talking to you anyway! That black pointy of yours had my name written all over it! A few weeks after you sold it I got a cheque in the post for my bent curvy.

Hang on a minute. People riding their bikes in this forum!!! This must stop immediately!

Seriously though, I'm up for a local bimble as and when. I know loads of Basingstokeish roads and am happy to lead if required. With a combination of Tom and I you'll be able to see the full spectrum of clean to dirty bikes but with a cracking sound track.

Ping back into this thread if you're out again as most folks won't check the forum daily given the lack of traffic.

We rode round Basingstoke and Fleet. You could have almost heard us lol.

I might even have another quick venture out later after I drop the wife off at work. She had a go at me yesterday for leaving to go riding the second it stopped raining. But I'll be ok when she goes to work.

I've just been out for an hour towards fleet. I tried to follow some of the routes Tom took me but after 30 mins I had to admit defeat and turn around.

Still, it was good fun as the roads were mainly dry. It's all about time out on the road to brush up my riding skill.

Mark_h

If it's not chucking it down and I get home from work in time, anyone fancy a quick bimble from about 18:00 Tuesday May 1st? Start/end Fleet everything else up for negotiation.

Tomor
30-04-12, 09:09 PM
Mark, I would be up for that, but only if it is not chucking it down! forecast for tomorrow is not looking too bad so this may well happen!
I finish at 6 so could meet around 625 in fleet somewhere?

WayneL
30-04-12, 10:07 PM
I would love to, but the wife might cut my manhood off. I'll see what I can do and post on here tomorrow.

It's looking like a no from me. The Mrs is in a mood with because I'm out on the bike any chance I get.

If I am going to be able to venture out at the weekend I need to spend lots of time with her this week.

Plan-B.

go for Wednesday. Is bike meet day at Alton and Loomies. AND more importantly this is not just a ride this is a coaching session with an advanced riding coach (Me) to evaluate your current riding style and suggest ways of improving your safety. What wife could possibly deny the value in that? If she's up for it I could take her on pillion so you can spend more time with her too :)

Probably a bit too soon in your riding career to get involved in any sort of IAM/ROSPA coaching although the sooner you get some training the fewer bad habits need to be corrected.

Tom and others, you interested in Wedensday even if Wayne can't get a pass?

I may well go for this on another Wednesday if it's possible. A car pulled out in front of me a year ago breaking me and my bike. Other party has finally paid out and I am collecting my new bike this Sunday. If I'm honest I'm sh1tting myself about getting back on a bike but I miss it so much and know I'll be fine once I get going. Maybe a few pointers from someone like yourself would make it all a bit easier for me.

Thanks

Mark

Winder - No problem with a gentle "getting back in the saddle" ride. Can thoroughly recommend IAM through TVAM (tvam.org) for getting your confidence back. Mind you IAM is not for everyone as I'm sure someone will leap in to state shortly.

Tonight is looking less likely for me so will have to see how Wednesday pans out.

Wayne, get working on that Wednesday pass.

Wednesday any good for anyone else? Not sure if Alton is running Summer calendar yet or not but either way Loomies is open late for a bacon butty / coffee anyway.

We could be in danger of resurrecting social riding within the Guildford Massive!!

My mrs has come round to the idea now. She says I can go out. So I could stay in tonight and go tomorrow if people are going.

Sorted. Lets pencil in 18:00 at the Oatsheaf pub in Fleet (Cross roads at top of the high street.) I think that may be a bit early for Tom but we can have a chat while he drags himself away from work.

Just to to forewarn if I end up having to work I may need to bail at the last minute. Whose coming ?

I would be more than happy to join in some London antics, but it's also nice to be able to do some local stuff when the weather is good as it doesn't really need much planning.

Me, Tom and Wayne. Oatsheaf in Fleet 18:00. (Today 2nd May) anyone else want to join us?

Probably a few wiggly roads towards Alton for a cuppa then see if we want to go to Loomies form there.

Thanks for the ride-out gents. Need to work out how the bow-wave from Nathan's bike kept pushing me along too fast. Need to get that sorted out!

Wayne you can now add riding in the rain in the dark to your list of achievements. I was impressed with how quickly you discovered that the faster you go the more you can see. The next step is going at speed in the rain then look sideways to clear your visor.

Loads of other wiggly roads around here to try out although we've covered two of the main biker venues in the area.

Cheers,
Mark

The trike/tank/hgv or whatever it was made it worth the trip by itself!
