Is there a music shop near you, if so go in there and see if they can recommend something ?

I would have thought you wont go wrong with something like this though

Never mind squire, what about a Fender

I've always liked Yamahas too

I never looked at Fenders, I didnt think you'd be able to get one in budget...

If you're going over budget I'd be tempted by this

So hard to resist a cutaway though!

I own a Takamine and a Yamaha , they both sound good in their own right and I can`t fault either of them for what they do and what they have gone up against in terms of cost for sound

i have a Takamine Jasmine well 2 actually as i wore the fist one out (well it is very old) the older one was fantastic, the newer one is good but the action is a bit harder the newer one is a more rare mahogany topped one. they sound great when plugged in but not to loud when unplugged.

Washburn are a very nice, budget acoustic guitar manufacturer!

For example:

Takemine are also nice guitars.

My acoustic is between 30 and 40 years old. Cost me 40 quid second hand.

I've had it over 12, its got battlescars, made by Tanglewood. Dunno how much a new one is, or quality these days, but I don't think they are bad.

Yamahas get my vote - Great guitars for the money.

I've got a Yamaha FG720s. Being a drummer I rarely use it! Ought to sell it really, but I'm not sure what its worth? I think it might be a bit over budget :(

Fender, Takamine, Tanglewood, Yamaha....all make good budget guitars. I used to teach acoustic guitar at evening class and saw many pupils - some who had bought the right guitar and some who had not. Get down to your local 'big' guitar shops and try lots out. When you find one you really like, find the net price and then go back to the shop and see if they can match - you might like to be able to go back. A word of warning - unless you take a guitar buff with you - avoid used guitars. One way to check if a guitar neck is warped is to look right down - it should be dead straight. Also to test if the intonation is true (tuning) play an open string and then at the 12th fret - it should be perfectly in tune, an octave apart - a simple electronic tuner will show you how close it is ( tune open and then go to 12th fret to check.) One good reason for going to a guitar shop is you may get real comparitive advice. Best of luck.

I have had a few acoustics as well as electrics and basses but my favourite is still my 45 year old Yamaha FG-75 acoustic, abused, gigged and still plays great! The blues is still the best!

I bought a Crafter elec acoustic some time ago, it wasnt the sound that made me buy it in the end it was the neck shape, it just seemed perfect for the size of my hands so its worth going into a good guitar dealers and get him to have a play with a few geetars, my local shop had an incredible range of stuff form 'hello kitty' bright pink acoustics right up to 1920's gibsons and martins and I was encouraged to pick up any acoustic and have a go, check em out http://www.frailers.com/Scripts/default.asp
