Will be 2.5km from the Nurburgring for a couple of days for our trip this year, seems rude not to sample but no way I'm doing it on my bike.

Anyone used any rental firms nearby they'd recommend? I'm used to pretty rapid cars so don't want anything too tame, a hot (not tepid) hatch will do.

Why on earth wouldn't you do it on your bike.

You go all the way there and don't ride it? What a waste.

Agreed. Thats like getting Angelina Jolie into bed and then just wanting to hold hands. Sort it out! ;)

+1 to both above. If you're there with the bike then it'd be rude not to ride it :)

It's bloody brilliant, and you don't have to push your limits. In fact don't even try and get anywhere near your limits if you've not been round before. But that's the same for bike or car.

Haha, I don't want to bin my bike - if I had something cheaper I may be inclined but not willing to risk it. Plus my mate is on a new 848 so he's definitely not taking it

pffft If Crashy McCrash a lot (Christopher) can get round it in one piece I'm sure you can manage it.

If you're there on a saturday, just get there at 8am when it opens as its quiet then. By 9am there is quite a few people around. :bounce:

When we last went we didnt realise it was a German bank holiday weekend and it was rammed. If you left a car sized gap a stonking beemer/porsche came 4 wheel drifting through it :smt087

You know someone who does want to crash? How odd.

I think we know you don't want to crash, but then you'll ride on the road - hundreds of miles - all the way to Germany.

And it's well known no-one crashes on the road.

I got this from a place in Adenau. We were planning on doing the ring on our bikes but my mate's chain snapped the day before. This was the cheapest car we could find, it's only a 1.5 Suzuki Ignis but it had rally suspension and a full race exhaust. There wasn't much that was quicker than us around the twisty bits.

I think you are wise not taking your bike on the ring, it's nothing like a track day. It's a public toll road with no speed limit (in some sections). And it can be a very busy road at times.

That's my main concern about the ring. I'd love to give it a go but I'd be more worried by the other fools than anything. I know there would be car drivers and other bikes pushing much harder who I'd be holding up, and having some amateur Stig wannabie bearing down on me would be the most likely thing to cause an accident.

I dont think i will do the ring and if i ever do it will be a lap which atleast 20% of the pace, i think i wld only do it on a track bike if you can

All bikes on the ring have to be road legal so not sure if you'd be able to ride a track bike on there.

You won't find a car rental place within a hundred miles of the place that won't have a Ring exclusion clause in the rental agreement....trust me, we've tried! You can however pay a tad more and hire one specifically for the Ring, as has already been posted.
My advice is ride your own bike round the place, it's not as bad as some make out, just keep an eye on your mirrors, keep to the right when you see something coming, and resist the temptation to race anything.... Oh, and check your own policy to make sure you're covered, more and more UK policies exclude the place now.

I've done the ring on my bike, take your own bike round it. You don't have to go full chat if you do not want to just be sensible and keep to the right so that others who are trying to go fast can get by you. German road law applies, so should someone cause an accident that affects you then they are liable for your costs. The place is only as dangerous as you make it.
