I like everything from classical to good popular music, dance music and metal. I have a thing for really dark evil music though, and as such I like a bit of Slayer, but I only recently saw this video of a live performance of Raining Blood. Bloody awesome. Properly dark!!! Probably my favourite live performance I've seen online, so I thought I'd share it.

If anyone has any other really dark music vids (preferably live performances, please share). For the record, I am no satanist. I often polish my halo after getting out of the shower. :smt083

I love Slayer, they are the first Death band I got into and yet I have never managed to see them live. I understand that guitarist Jeff Hannerman was injured when he got bitten by spider a while back, so is currently out of action, but they are still working hard.
Now I have to be honest, I work for a friends internet radio station and became known for being a bit of a black and death metal fiend, but I still have a lot of love in my heart for other forms of dark and twisted music. So have a look at some of these delights.

See how you get on with that lot and let me know if I have inspired you to new levels of extremity.

The best Slayer song ever has these lyrics
Close your eyes
And forget your name
Step outside yourself
And let your thoughts drain
As you go insane... go insane
I remember when it released, and its as awesome now as it was then!
DOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

hehe. Your tastes are definitely more eclectic than mine, but there's some interesting stuff in there. What I love about that Slayer tune is it was written in the year I was born. It's 30 years old, and it still sounds current today.
Anyway, your vid links ... You can always rely on Jules Holland to play the bizarre on his show. Also, I've heard that Dissection track before, and it's a goodun. Quite a dark tune, but not a dark performance. The other trash/death tunes are pretty good and they are all properly dark, but what they lack is the catch bits I like. My fave type of dark tune is the type which somehow manages to mix a catchy riff with a really dark atmosphere. Most death metal type stuff is a bit too heavy for me and lacks the hook.
I was trying to think of a good metal example, but I ended up falling back on this drum'n'bass tune. It's dark and sinister, and pretty much noise, but has just enough hooks from the various melodic elements to reel me in. I love this tune more than I love beer.

So.......do you like old Anathema, Paradise Lost, or My Dying Bride?

@Dizzy I've heard of all of those bands, and have definitely heard their tunes, but don't own any, nor know any by name. Any recommendations for me to wrap my ears around?

I dunno if this fits in but i do love the dark side to Aphex Twin videos... Don't think Richard James does live but I'd be there to see it if he did.
Why can I never get youtube stuff to link??? Bar me being a chimp

I think he has done Live Chucca. I stopped listening to him after he did that freeeeaky weird video of 'Come to Daddy'.
Not sure if he was self obsessed, but he did like starring everything with his own warped face
ps....yer link is totally blank

Gothic was an amazing album at the time, I listened to it again recently and was disappointed with how tame it sounds now. Oh well, there is always Draconian Times!

As for My Dying Bride, I still have a lot of time for them, I keep digging out the old faves from early on. Strangely though my favourite album was 37.888% Complete, a strange time in their history.
Here is one of their master works, although I understand that David Grey of Akercocke is now drumming for them.

Speaking of Akercocke, well it would be rude not to include them. One of my all time favourite bands.

Another great band who sadly are no longer with us due to the death of main man Quorthon is Bathory. Epic Viking metal does not get much better than this.

Unfortunately I am rather biased to these bands, years ago, me and my mate Lyndsey used to perv over Gregor Macintosh, cause her brother lived with him! Mick is now in DOOM.
As for the drummer of MDB.......are you sure? I've recently seen an old mate in the studio for new material, could have sworn he was playing for them these days. I know he played for them then left, and is now back. Unless it was for another band. Mind you they all play in other bands, Hamish is always singing in the local with his other one.....ooooo the stuff I could tell you about him at primary school

You can't leave it at that... I need to know these things!
The person who told me that David was drumming with MDB is the singer from another Band I that like and he is a massive MDB fan. He was also quite pleased to tell me that one of my fave noisy bands was on hold for a while! However, I have also heard from one of our DJs at BRR, that David is drumming with Ted Maul! Who do I believe? Either way, there is no new Akercocke album on the cards. :smt022
While we have this open forum, I would just like to say that if the drummer of Akercocke needs any help at all with his drum practice, he is more than welcome to practice on me! :smt118

LOL Jayne!
I shall tell you a little tale.
A very long time ago, as you know I dated a certain COF guitarist, when he was still in Solstice. There was a group of us that used to hang about together at the weekend in our local nightclub 'The ZooBar'
We always used to end up at Hamish's house, and as I only lived down the road, was always walked home by Mr Pyres and Mr Steeles(real men in black ;) ), because my mum and dad used to give me a complete roasting for just being female and out with the lads late. :smt019
The nights of swinging around lamposts and jumping over bollards, eating jars of red chillis in kitchens, and screaming words from the Bonzo Dog Doo Dahs, was quite frequent for a time. It was perhaps the best time of my youth I ever had, and I cherish it.
As for the MDB drummer....... I think Mr Steeles may only do it part time, perhaps, I know hes been married for years, and has a family. Think he was married when we all hung out together!

Been checking out the tunes people have suggested and posted. We've moved away from dark in the sense I mean (EVIL) to dark in the sense other people mean (I'm so sad, please kill me now). Nice to hear some new/old bands though. Aphex Twin however is proper freaky. The guy is a genius. As someone who writes electronic music, I can't think of anyone who has a broader skill sets and puts more into his music. It's not exactly something I enjoy listening to, but it is properly awesome.
And just to showcase his talent, this is also the evil horrific scary sick Aphex Twin ...
