Set off for work this morning, for about 20yards my journey went without a hitch, then I noticed how warm and wet my legs were getting...
Apparently my bike felt like it needed to clean my boots for me and decided the best way to do this would be to shoot coolant out at high power... via the head gasket - Awsome!

So stuck with 2 days of commuting via foot-bus-train-foot (takes about 2hours each way) or fix the issue I decided I should attempt to break the world record for swapping an engine...2.0hours it took me to strip the drz back to the point I could take out the knackered engine (as per pic). Then another 1.5 to fit a spare one I had and get it running, then another hour to put back on all the other crap too.

Lost half a days work but less than 5hours after having a dead bike I've once again got a living one. So I guess Im fortunate in that sense, and fortunate I had a spare engine even though technically I'd sold the engine yesterday for £500, so this little breakdowns cost me £500 + a mornings work... So far May = Sucks

NB: Suzuki are stupid!!! Why pass the engine through the swing arm? I wasnt pleased to have to take the back end apart as well its not previously been an issue but it added nearly 1.5hours to the job...

Crikey Matt. That's good going, plus pretty handy you just had a spare engine lying around. What happens if your house burns down? You just gonna build another one in 5 minutes out of straws and glue? Also, put some enduro tyres on that thing and come greenlaning!!! :D

Oddly enough we're in the process of buying a new build house so technically... we do have a spare house.

I was gonna say you'd be a good man to have around if you can swap an engine in under 2 hours, but attaching the rear wheel is a key part of bike maintenance. It says it in the Haynes manual. I'll find the bit if you like to prove it. I'm not saying you don't know what you're doing, but I'm just saying, as far as I know, the wheel is supposed to be attached to the bike. I'm no expert, but that's what I've been told. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Im just quite busy at work (despite having been on the org since pretty much getting here). if i miss an hour today, it just means I've gotta make it up tomorrow.
My bikes the only transport I have so I need to fix it ASAP when ever its poorly.

Oh it was attached, I rode for a good 6miles to the meet point so it was definetly attached. It just wansted adjusted for chain tension and nipped up so everytime I leant the rear wheel counter steared for me lol. Scary thing is that was the 2nd time I'd done that, did it at AR09 as well.
Its only when I rush, in fairness today hasnt been a perfect sucess either, as I've some how disconnected the power to my dash so Im kinda "guessing" my speed... turns out everyone else seems to be going quite slowly today though - fools.

I hate rushing things like that too. I'll often arrange to go for a rideout and then find I'm still cleaning/lubing the chain or something when I have to be leaving to meet people. What this normally results in though, is me finishing the bike properly, before running into the house, stuffing my face with a snack and drink, and then riding off with chronic indigestion. Indigestion while riding isn't fun.

They are, what's unreliable are the dithering in bread eedjits who think they can strip an engine in their living room and coat every surface inside and out with dog hair and fag ash. Rounding almost every nut and dethreading the rest.

Its hard a hard life this lump, thought we'd gicen it a second chance at life but alas all it managed was one last hurar before it went to the parts bin in the sky.

As muc as i know about the lump from Previous owner is he tried an unsuccessful rebuild on it which then lead to a blown head gasket (same as original reason for his rebuild) he then tried to fix it again stripping it to the base gasket... This didnt work either and in the process fecked he the piston rings.
I've had it back down to the base gasket and between my YC and TTG we've put about 40hours into it but in the end got it to live again.
Or so we thought, Ive put just under 1000 miles before finding water in the oil or oil in the water as it was. That's it now though it's getting parted out it can live on in other bikes now, maybe stripping it to its core will show where the demon within really lies.

That's bloomin' quick work Owenski, it takes me that long to change the oil, adjust the chain and change the brake pads. Faced with your dilemma, I would have bought another bike on ebay in that time. Fair play to you.
