Hi all,
had my restriction kit removed a while back now by my local mechanic, who took a small washer type bit of metal out.
however, since it still doesnt seem to be running at 100%, its a 04 pointy version and ive heard people say in the past that to remove the restriction from the carbless pointy ones it is a black box type device under the seat, yet the guy in the shop removed a washer like piece of metal suggesting it was the same as a older curvy carbed model,
anyone got any ideas?
pointy is a 33bhp ECU restrictor, not a full power one

The best way to derestrict a bike is to remove the restriction kit.
If he removed a washer/throttle stop then your bike was restricted by washers/throttle stop i.e mechanically.
If your bike HAD have been restricted by ECU (best way to restrict a bike) then he would have swapped the ECU (black box).
There'd be no gain to him pretending to remove a washer and leaving the ECU in as it's less work. Unless he wanted to charge you extra...but in that case he would have removed the ECU AS WELL so he didn't get rumbled...unless he's a proper mong.
All I can think of is either the bike was restricted by both means and he didn't expect it, he didn't have a clue what he was doing or maybe your bike had been setup to run at it's best with the washer kit in / something bizarre like that. Or it's unrelated to the derestriction.
How do you mean 'it doesn't seem 100%'?
Runs badly? Down on power?

Try twisting your throttle, if it only moves a really small amount the throttle stop is still in.
Lift up the tank, pop off the top of your air box and remove the filter, look through the inlet ports, if you can see metal washers in eith, then they're still in.
I has the same fitted, when removed I had to tweak my idle to get it to run nicely.

Hopefully he took TWO washers out!
And reseated the airbox etc. so as not to give you an air leak.

nah he definitley only took one washer out :S
not sure how it was restricted as i got the shop to do it when i brought it, although the throttle opens all the way so im sure its not restricted through that.
by not running at 100% i mean power wise, i.e pretty much stops pulling at 100mph..

Ok so first you should probably take the other washer out... The kit is meant to have one for each cylinder.
You should be able to hit 120 ish witohut much effort though above a ton it doesn't exactly bang through it.

and he definitley didnt release the airbox afterwards... he only did it as a favour to get it started as id had it in the shop getting some new tyres for a couple of days and it wouldnt start afterwards, so he said he would have to de-restrict it as the restrictor was choking it up. :S
its a twin there are 2 T/B's so 2 washers.

.
!!!!
Would be interested as to how this unfolds, take the bike back there (if you trust him to touch it again)
are you still on a restricted licence?

He really sounds like he no's what he's on about..... NOT!
Whip your tank up, take the airbox off and have a look at the throttle body's and see if there is a washer in one and if you dont no what to look for post a pic up on here.
Best off ruleing that out before looking at anything else
Surely the injected engine shouldn't be restricted using just washers in the inlet manifolds like the carbed engine? Fuelling is determined by throttle angle, so placing a restriction in the inlet would really screw this up unless a throttle stop was installed as well.

Yes a throttle stop is also installed (which would work fine on it's own).
And yes it still really f***s the fuelling.

Hello mate
I de-restricted mine yesterday finally and had two washers on the throttle bodies and a throttle stop to remove, I also had to turn the idle up, I doubt they would restrict it with alpha kit and an ecu, but yours shouldn't top at 100, I got to 135 with ease

Yeah, until next month, thats why i wasnt too bothered about it not running up to top speed until now.
thanks for the advice, will lift the tank at the weekend and check out the washer situation,
if however it is through an ecu, do i simply remove it, or do i have to replace it with a standard one?

Replace with a standard one
