Came across this little gem among all the dubious YouTube bike advice dross -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWH_QiXw5n4&feature=g-vrec

Bit weird at the start but stay with it - well worth it and quite fascinating.

I'm doing my advanced test at the moment with RoSPA and it backs up everything my excellent instructor has been telling me - particularly about counter-steering.

I was under the impression that the steering mechanism on a motorcycle was just for car park-speed maneuvers but I couldn't have been more wrong and using counter-steering, rather than hanging off the sides of the bike, has improved my cornering speeds massively.

Enjoy!

The definition of cheese at the beginning, but you're right it's worth sticking with it. That bit about the shock rising as you accelerate seems weird. Maybe it's because the chain is pulling the rear sprocket closer to the engine?

I've never been able to understand why the rear technically "rises" on acceleration either.
If you watch this clip of a bike on a dyno you can see it happening.

In practice of course it doesn't move that much because of the counter effort from weight transfer, but the principal that the force acts with the spring to "stiffen" the rear can be felt.

How many bikes have positive anti-squat like that? When playing about setting mine up I found positive anti squat like that made no grip at rear.

Stock SV is so low and has next to no anti squat at all, blows through most of travel just opening throttle.

Dyno is different to real life, on dyno it is pushing against front wheel, in real life it is pushing against center of gravity.

The legend that is Keith Code.

I have the whole DVD and a digital copy of it too. Very cheesey indeed but it has helped me improve my riding greatly and recognising my SR's and how to overcome them. Some things seem strange when your watching the video, but go out there and try it on your bike and it really works :-)

Hopefully in the future i would like to try level 1 & 2 at the CSS school.

My main take-away from all the Keith Code stuff is "If it's all going wrong just add throttle!"

Problem is 99.999% of the rest of my brain is shouting BRAKE!!!!
