Hi guys

Just cleaning my chain today and noticed some serious movement when the bike was running. Had it up on the paddock stand and the "jump" seems to be in the same place each time.

I can't get it to do the same when turning the wheel by hand so I guess its caused by the vibration from the engine?

Its a new chain (and sprockets) about 2 weeks ago. Video below shows the movement.

Sorry for poor quality!

Cheers

from the video, it looks like a tight link, however as you say it's a new chain then it's more likely the rivet link was put on too tight and is causing the same effect, not a great deal you can do about it now, keep and eye on it and it well lubed, but it should ease up with use.

Cheers Mark.

I think I will just replace the master link. There only a few quid. Any recommendations on how to judge the tightness?

I find the bike is jugging a bit though. I can feel it but the rev needle isn't jumping. I guess that means the chain?

if you turn the wheel by hand is there any tight spots to the chain e.g. kinked links.

Nope its perfectly smooth. I figured the jumping was coming from the vibration of the engine but that would handle enough to make me feel it chugging?

i've had surging before and it was too tight a chain. tight area was coming round and making the chain like a bowstring then it would go to the loose area so on and so on.

That's what I had before hence the new chain. It's definitely not as bad as before. I'm baffled. Ill try a new link and see what happens
