Ok my toshiba laptop is now about 7/8 years old and on its last legs and needs to be replaced before I lose my rag with it and throw it at the wall!
So looking at new laptops but have no idea what the difference is between the processors i.e intel celeron, pentium, core i3 and core i5 or even the amd Athlon x2
So what is the difference?

Oh and are there any particular brands of laptop to avoid?
The I3 I5 etc refer to the number of cores the processor has. Someone who knows a bit more will probably explain it better but the more cores you have the more things the processor can do at the same time but all you need to know is the more cores the better.
If you are just using the laptop just for internet and stuff pretty much any modern laptop will be more than up to the job.
I had an Acer laptop which died after 6 months so probably wouldn't buy another one of those. Have a Samsung now, really happy with it.
Mac are good, but pricey. I was fed up for ages with the normal Windows problems etc. Was going to get a Mac book pro, but ended up with a iMac. I would never go back to a Windows based PC again.

If you have basic requirements just go for the best priced i3 you can see from a reputable brand. Any other wants on the hitlist?

Just a quick one on the "mac" thing, I work for a large electrical retailer and repaired all sorts, they are know for software issues ATM due to the "lion" upgrade not being compatible with software all ready used on the market.

Nothing wrong with the Toshiba but this has a faster processor and is cheaper
