A little montage using the HD Drift and a new piece of nifty software called Highlight Hunter. This really works and I'll be using it again to try and capture some great highlights. Enjoy:

Watched it mate. Nice vid. I read the thread title yesterday and assumed you were organising a run from Cardiff to Southampton, so didn't bother to read. Maybe others thought the same.

Nice vid though. Are you using a suction mount? Which area of fairing is it attached to? Also I'm assuming you're not using the external mic?

Haha :D Thanks for the comment.

The HD Drift170 has a clip system & I've used the mount with the super sticky pad, attached directly to the top left fairing (beneath the left indicator). The camera then clips into the mount and is rotatable. This is one of my favourite positions but still playing around with it as I have 3 different mounts on the bike.

1st part of the vid has sound from the external mic, which is attached to the clutch cable behind the fairing. I think the connector got dislodged later and this is why there is little sound on the 2nd half of the Vid. External mic is needed to avoid the terrible wind noise which has ruined a lot of my other recordings.

Got many more vids but they take ages to convert and upload. Highilight Hunter works really well though as its so easy. Might even purchase the full package. Watch this space for more :)

I have the drift too mate (the stealth one). I wasn't sure you had the mic because there was a lot of wind noise, but since I could actually hear the engine, I thought you might be using it. I get nothing but wind on mine at any speed over about 30mph. Anyway, I've just ordered the mic so looking forward to trying that out on the weekend. Will probably mount it inside my helmet.

That was a good day for it though. The images looked pretty sharp. I've only filmed in overcast weather at the moment, which I think reduces the picture quality quite a lot. Plenty of sun to come though. Summer is on it's way. :)

Ah ok, sorry about that. The mic is tucked behind the fairing but still gets wind noise. I'm experimenting to find the best position. You'll hear the difference when you get your mic. Helmet is best for noise reduction but I'm trying to pick up that sweet V-twin growl as it makes such a difference to the Video (and the ride:D)

I'm doing France next month so trying to get the best settings before the trip.. Yes, hopefully we'll get some good riding weather soon. Post up some vids. I'd love to see what others can do with the drift as it seems so versatile. Enjoy mate!

I think you've inspired me to modify the goggle mount and turn that into a fairing camera point. I totally agree the engine would add a lot to the vid too, so I'll have to try that. How have you attached the mic to the fairing?

Here's a vid we did last saturday. Fairly boring vid, but it was a long day of getting wet, so quite sedate. :) As you'd expect, just wind noise, and because it was overcast, not the best quality (only recording in 720p though)

Like the Vid mate. Does indeed look a bit wet and slippery.

This weekend should be Ok, which is good cause I'm test riding a 2012 RC8 in Bristol then hopefully a Panigale next week, before Llandow trackday in Wales next friday. Lost footage of CBR1000RR test so gutted but will upload the upcoming rides (weather permitting) as and when. Helmet mount for those.

Goggle mount mod is a good one. Still have two mounts to place somewhere but will be giving this some careful thought first. I'll start updating my settings on the Vids for anyone who'se interested.

"Nice bit of road"... wide and straight with loads of cars on it? HUH?

Get up in't hills lad and find some corners for chrissakes. There are some right decent roads down that way, ask some of the locals for advice...

Oh thanks Chris. I'll make sure to remember that. Why don't you come down and ride some of these straight roads. I promise they have no gravel on them or 20mph turns ... those are tricky ;)

I saw it got better later on but the bit you'd put the "nice road" caption on looked like motorway :-P

@Runako - Yesterday I got my mic and that stupid bit of rubber to seal up the design flaw of a gapping hole in the back. I was playing around with the mic positioning, but really couldn't find a good way to mount it in my helmet. Have you had a bash at that yet? If so, how did you mount it?

Also I was looking at other mounting points on the bike. I came up with 3 places where we could possibly use the next-to-useless-for-motorcyclists handbar mount. May need mods though. Have you just used the velcro for mounting the cam on the fairing and also how did you mount your mic? There aren't really any obvious ways to connect it on, besides the clip. Cable ties maybe?

@Runako - Yesterday I got my mic and ... couldn't find a good way to mount it in my helmet.

Ah yes, "where to put the mic in the helmet" problem. I had two solutions. Luckily I have another mic with a smaller head, fits more neatly into my Caberg Justissimo which has a bit of room in the cheek due to being a flip helmet. Very fiddly though.

2nd - Up the outside of the helmet, through the visor and secure using clip and visor just by the side of my cheek.

However I made a great discovery ... I'm not really interested in vlogging! After watching countless youtube vloggers, which pursuaded me to get the thing in the first place, I'd much rather ride fast and listen to music (yes I do use earphones :)). So I've ended up doing two vlogs, which I've chosen not to upload. Will try again in France.

that stupid bit of rubber to seal up the design flaw ...

Yes, obvious design flaw with the rear hatch but (touch wood) the silly rubber thing has done its job so far.

Also I was looking at other mounting points on the bike. I came up with 3 places where we could possibly use the next-to-useless-for-motorcyclists handbar mount. May need mods though. Handlebar mount was completely useless, even on my road bicycle. But, like you, I'll mod it for another part of the bike :) I did use the velcro for the two mounts & modded google mount. Again, these were sturdy, even on bumpy roads. Everything tested first. Most vulnerable is lower fairing mount (not seen yet) as its closest to ground. No worries so far.

The clip is too lightweight, unless attached to a brake line or clutch cable line. I suppose cable ties could work, otherwise a bit of electric tape (but don't go mad with it on the fairing). Its all fairly new to me so I'll keep experimenting. If you have any good tips I would also be grateful as I'm finding it a lot of fun at the moment :D:D:D

Fair play, its pretty straight but is actually a wide one laner. If you really want to get on, you can be a bit naughty and scare the bejezuss out of some sunday drivers ... but I would never do that ;)

Seriously though, you northerners don't venture far enough south. "Da Wales" has a an awful lot to offer! Come down.

@Runako - Cheers for the tips mate. Made another vid today after going out for a lunchtime blast. I'm just dubbing music over the top because I'm sick of hearing wind noise! I'll try and find a mic mount in the helmet and try your idea of locking it in place with the visor.

I agree on the vlogging too. Not really seeing much point in that. I just record fun rides. I don't think people need to hear my ramblings as I go. I just stick on a few subtitles if I want to comment. At the end of the day, I'm not interested in whinging about traffic cutting me up, and I don't think I can impart any riding wisdom, since I'm not that special. So I reckon it's engine noises or music for me. Will try and find a good mount for the mic as close to the engine or exhaust as possible. :)

Engine noises :)

I tried mic in helmet, turns out I haven't got anything worthwhile to add.

@Runako - Sussed the handlebar mount! It fits to the standard rear indicator stalk with the rubber removed and some aggressive persuasion to force the bolt through. Will post up a pic later as proof. You got standards on the back?

That's a great idea. To be fair I hadn't considered this but I'll have to think about it because I've re-used the standard after the fender eliminator mod. But I had to kinda mod it to get it to work, not sure if it will be stable enough for the Camera but will have a look at yours and give it a go.

Rode an RC8R yesterday, video to come later today or tomorrow. The thing was as rough low down as a bag of spanners. You need to get it about 7k to work and front suspension underdamped. Track only I think, as it has loads of adjustability (and it is pretty quick) but not for me.

Off out later to try out some more angles and see what I come back with.

That's useful vlogging mate. Testing out bikes other than the SV and giving us the low down. I'd listen to any pointless drivel about other bikes to learn more about them. Did you mic it up in your helmet?

Here's how I mounted the cam. Just used it today. Video to follow in the guildford massive forum. It's tilted quite far down to make it fit, but with the wide angle lens, I think the footage will be ok. It was really stable, and I threaded the mic under the seat so hopefully will get some good engine noise. Only negative is the rubber wire seems to have managed to damage the paintwork a bit rubbing against it. Would recommend some protective tape or something.

Additionally, the microphone in the pillion seat cuts out almost all the wind noise and sounds IMMENSE! :D

Go for it Amy. I think the drift looks quite cool on the helmet, cos you can mount it on the top, giving a more symmetrical sleeker look. It still looks odd, but I don't care. Not sure how the picture quality compares. I wouldn't say I'm impressed by it, but it's good enough, and I'm having fun being able to mount it in random places. :)

Hey good work mate. Just realised you have a Curvy (yeah, didn't pay attention in class either) so my indi's are a little different. That's a good POV, will see what I can rig up. Have some footage of Amy carving some country lanes in Bridgend :)

Re: KTM, didn't have long with it due to traffic and had to put some petrol in which made my 1hr more like 30 min. So didn't do a Vlog as such, just a crap intro and 2 quick runs (with the cam inadvertently pointing at the speedo ... doh). But I'll chop it up into a 2 minute vid or something.

Will have a look at your vid now :)
