View Full Version : Fuel Exhaust popping question (again)

Sorry if this has been done to death!

Fitted stainless max length oval exhaust. Followed instructions and read a bit on here first. Did it 1st with no sealer, i could feel the leaks and it left black marks and obviously popped on the overrun.

I then took it apart, put a silicone sealent on the joints and re-assembled. Can't feel any leaks or see any black marks but still pops. (maybe less often but can't be sure)

Ultimately my questions are:-

1. Is some popping normal for an SV with just an aftermarket can?
2. Is it causing any damage?
3. If it's popping is there necessarily a problem? (ie leaky/re-jetting needed)

Cheers guys.

You've got a Pointy, that has fuel injection and the Suzuki PAIR system. Thus it pops.

It also happens with a standard can, it's obviously harder to hear than with an open exhaust, but, if you listen very carefully it is just audible.

For approximately the 6675th time: (just kidding, but we have done this several times).
PAIR is a system of valves that allows air from the airbox into the exhaust system when on the overrun, a situation in which unburnt or partially burnt fuel can pass to atmosphere and cause a higher level of undesired emissions, letting fresh air into the exhaust allows that fuel to burn and thus not end up going out of the end of the pipe. When the standard exhaust is there this takes place inside a baffled pipe, an open exhaust simply allows it to be heard rather more easily.

Thanks once again Sid :) I did read somewhere on here about it happening in the standard can but read so many conflicting ones also so cheers for clearing it up for me.
