View Full Version : Anybody ever bought ex-MOD kit?

Had a very silly conversation at work about paintball tanks today. Looks brilliant btw, not to derail myself too much but we're thinking about a works outing! Anyway, this conversation led me to looking at whether you can you buy a tank and I then spotted on a site where they clear old MOD stuff a Landrover V8 Snatch. Currently for only a bit over £500 quid with about 4 days to go. MrsDJF and I have always fancied the idea of a landy of some sort. So, the question is, does anyone have any experience of buying ex-MOD stuff like this? And for the army guys on here, how badly do you shag your Snatches before the MOD get rid of them? As it were.

Got shares in the oil industry?
The V8 snatches are a tad thirsty.

IIRC they are all demiliterasied(sp) and stripped down to basic parts. I believe that they can't sell them on if the vehicle is not 'roadworthy' or possible to be made it.

I would only buy one if I were a drug dealer in Bradisstan....!!! if you know what I mean... !

Leave well alone...if your going to put it on the road... If your going to strip it for parts... then The worlds Your lobster :0)

So will it still be a snatch landrover then? By that i mean armour and doors weighing in at about 3 tons? If so i wouldn't bother. If you'r looking for a good ex military 4x4 get an old long wheel base GS rover.

they dont roll that easily. you can easily have it at 20/25mph and hit full lock without it rolling (got the vid to prove it!)

I must have been going faster then back in 2001 when I rolled mine then ;)

MOD vehicles get ragged quite a bit in all honestly. But then again, they are very well serviced. I would view ex MOD vehicles in a similar way that you would view ex police vehicles. High mileage but well serviced.

Nieghbour bought one two years ago. Needed just about everything replaced for an MOT, plus all the hassle that involved with getting it plated, then the engine went.
Pile of poo.

I wouldn't if I were you. Well maintained and serviced... but there's only a certain amount that can make up for being ragged to ****!

Hmm, back to the drawing board then! Still, my half is 300 quid towards the Sprint for next year

You what?

On which planet?

Driven to death, serviced by monkeys. I wouldn't touch one with your bardgepole!

The interior will be rough as a bears buttock, 'cuffs and batons are rough on cheap seats. The dash will be butcherd from radio/MDT fits. The engines will be old, tired and knackered, the suspension will be like blancmange.

Never, ever, buy an ex cop car.

Lol. They are well serviced, as are cop cars. But I certainly didn't mean that they are in good nick!

Lol. They are well serviced, as are cop cars.!

No, they're serviced at the longest intervals possible whilst being driven as hard as possible.

Never buy an ex cop car.

Anyone considering buying ex MOD kit should go meet davepreston (who drove them) and richie (who fixed em) and think again :)

I'd buy one for off roading, not road use. Really tempted for a recovery truck :smt077

We don't all drive like dicks though lol. Maybe have a good look around but as stated earlier get a wolf for variant otherwise you have a big hole in the roof with a roller door

Or maybe a NATO defender

driven to destruction, sevices by red ar5es who have done a 2 week course (the people who actually know how to do it walk round the camp with a clip board far away from the service bay) , still used till completely bullockest, then sent to richie to fit tempory fix, then fixed with black nasty by driver 10 mins after its rolled out off richies L.A.D and stopped dead, then ragged till black nasty fails and so the circle begins again

the only mod vehicles you should buy are
big posh jags= brigadiers car ,more looked after then the queen
motorbikes = well looked after cos anyone who gets to do this in the job treats it like their first born, and doesnt lets ANYONE else near it
