Come to Italy for a few days. Had quite a productive time today in terms of finds:

A decent size millepede:

A grass snake (45cm long at a guess). I was holding him by the tail as I shot this so it's not the best shot...

A furry caterpillar - don't know what type as I left my books at home - if anyone can enlighten me, that would be great

Hope you like them. I'm sure there are a few people that will.

Lovely. Can't say I'm up on my Italian moths, it's bad enough with all our Brit ones! It looks similar to our Drinker Moth caterpilly but really no clue. The grass snake's gorgeous, they are pretty little things :)

He didn't want to be picked up really but after a minute or so he calmed down and was fine sitting there. Really made my day. :-)

I found a curled up grass snake in my nicely cooking compost bin once. Was about to jab a fork into it when a head popped up, regarded me for a moment, and then looped itself off over the back wall and away. One of those moments when you wish you had your camera with you so lucky you for being in the right place AND having your camera! Lovely pics.

They lay their eggs in compost heaps, so you'll probably have a few this year!

Haha +1

Nice collection of critters those. Last thing that crawled out of my compost heap all the way up here in the cold was a lizard? i didn't even know we got them up here.
