I'm going to stop this game right now! Its mine, it has been reasonably looked after, oiled at least once a week for the entire of its 11k mile life. We will see if the cwap YC has fitted in exchange lasts any longer..... At least he remembered to put everything back on the bike this time....

I would also like to point out the teeth came off on the way over to YC's, as I checked and tightened the chain before I left....

This piece of scrap I removed was an IRIS chain... which is why I don't fit them...

Well we will see how long your stuff lasts, I will have put 11k on it by the end of the summer. I will ignore the rain, snow etc as we seem to have that in summer too...

They usually snap long before 11k

I had an Iris which snapped at about 5k so I also would NOT go anywhere near them. I'd have had that 'en off long before it had my sprockets looking like that though!

There was plenty of life left in that sprocket, if you just use a dremmel to deepen the teeth again, it's like re-grooving a truck tyre...

:D

11K to that condition! Jeez thats crap! I hope you fitted a Scottoiler for him Y-C, I don't think oiling 'once a week' will be enough....

I had an Iris 525 HD X ring chain on the little gixer 400 I took around the Balkans in 2009. At the time I was using a spray lube on it. I did 4500 miles in 2 weeks followed by another 1200 miles up to and around the Scottish highlands with that chain. It was in near perfect condition when I got back. I've recently taken it off the gixer and used it to replace the knackered DID chain on the SV (along with nearly new sprockets). It's now running with a Scottoiler in place, has done a further 3500 miles and so far needed no adjustment.

Just to be contrary like......
