View Full Version : Life in this section
Saw two SV's on road the other week, another two at Llandow and I know someone on here with one but the Wales banter/convo is pretty dead. Is there no one riding their bikes for fun in Cardiff/Wales?
If so, share your experience or lets get some local rideouts going. I'm bored and the weather's not that bad. Entertain me god dammit!

used to be good events right from down here to Wales and across the west. started to tail off beginning last year and this year there is nothing.
my excuse is i generally have been busy this year and last with work ect, i used to attend most evening meets every week but i dont have the time as of late
That's fair enough. I just can't imagine why people are less active/vocal on here when all the northern or even London sections are always doing something. In theory we have better routes and roads to ride on, loads of places to see. Yet I do more meets and rideouts with other groups that are not on here. Just puzzling.
Also, we have two accessible tracks in Wales yet i've never seen another Org member from this section at one. I did meet a guy with another SV and he opened my eyes as to how the standard bike can be ridden to the edge on track and it was a pleasure, so it can't be because everyone uses the bike just for commuting.
On that note, I'm going to France in a couple of weeks. Anyone fancy a rideout? :)

We need someone to organise things. Thank you for volunteering for that position.
Haha, I doubt anyone would come! I'm not a fair weather rider and will go out in most things. As we speak I can see some blue peeking through the heavy clouds so I will be going up to Brecon after the MotoGP :)

Don't assume things like that. MoFo's are accustomed to the climate. However, myself, I'm in the orifice today as I was yesterday so no fun for me...

dont listen to squirrel bummer as he is literally that. he is also on the "register" so I'd be careful.
i did try and organise a track day at castle combe year before last (i think). But allas despite loads of interest only metalhead and nick-69 booked on. So when i tend to want to go out for a blast for the day, i do it by phone so i get answers. Nothing personal, i just dont want squirell bummer coming.

WB, I fully understand your point of view. However I would like to correct you, I'm no longer on the "register" I paid a shady bloke in a pub £50 to take me off of it.
Haha, do you guys need some time alone? ;)
Fair play WB. Just come back from Abergavenny and there were about 70 bikes there at the usual spot. GSXR's, Harleys, R1's, ZX1000's etc etc ... but only one other SV :(
Cracking weather for the most part, so where was everyone (apart from your good selves of course)? I will take your advice though and try to organise a rideout for next weekend (weather permitting).

we used to have our sadly departed friend "Hovis" in this section and he would beat us into submission if we didnt all meet up. Sadly since his passing we all seem to have lost the jest for it.He would be kicking us all ,if he was here now:rant::rant:

Hovis did run the section and I took it up in his stead, but, the fact I am now 300 miles from where I was doesn't help the fact.
If Runako has got the enthusiasm for it, I can't see why he can't make a good show if it

Yes.
Well it goes without saying that I'm up for that. If we can't go for a rideout in this GLORIOUS weather then something's seriously wrong. If you, like me, are stuck in the office thinking about riding the bike then Valleboy you need to give me something to look forward to :) Do it, do it!

Jesus, who the hell are you?
Shall I arange a ride out?
Only if we can go over 30mph
; )
Problem is, and I can only speak for myself here, that over on the English side of the bridge we used to come and sample your roads alot, we'd come over to Abergavenny for a quick bimble on Thursday nights when we had weekly meetings based in Bristol but now, I/we are a bit older and less likely to get up in the morning at a decent time and it's 65 miles for me just to Aber (which used to be our official starting point for the days riding) and most of that is motorway. Then all day trips for me and Grunty have stopped too because I've got dogs that we can't leave in all day.
Actually, I feel a trip coming on. Anyone remember the Squirrel redundancy ride.... That ended up redundant because of the torrential rain and people falling off?
We could try and actually do it

There is no life left in your section, everybody opened their eyes, realised that fate had landed them in Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Pontypool, Methyr Tydfil, Neath, and the valleys, and they all promptly committed suicide ;-)

I take offence at that even though I have left the valleys...

Who am I ? I have no idea, though I have a sudden urge to navigate Wales via roadside burger vans!
I have gotten old, hence my current bike is an arm chair with big wheels compared to my previous bikes!
Anyway, anyone fancy a bimble this weekend?

You are not. I went there once, by accident. Although I think it does have a shoe museum, or is that the more interesting (at 2 in the 0-10 scale of dull to interesting) Peterborough?
Anyway, Stretchie is (in this instance) correct.

Never mind Northampton! If you want a rival for the valleys, come to Corby or Kettering! They all want to commit suicide, they just dont know enough about human anatomy to figure out how to do it, and they've been belting themselves round the head with heavy objects and taking excesive quantities of drugs so long they are now immune to both methods.

From Corby's wiki
In 1967 the British steel industry was nationalised and the Stewarts & Lloyds steel tube works at Corby became part of British Steel. In 1973 the government approved a strategy of consolidating steel making in five main areas – South Wales, Sheffield, S****horpe, Teesside and Scotland – most of which are coastal sites with access to economic supplies of iron rich imported ores. Thus in 1975 the government agreed a programme that would lead to the phasing-out of steel making in Corby.[6] In November 1979 the end of iron and steel making in Corby was formally announced. By the end of 1981 over 5,000 jobs had been lost from British Steel in Corby, and further cuts took the total loss to 11,000 jobs, leading to an unemployment rate of over 30%.[7][8] Steel tube making continued, however, initially being supplied with steel by rail from Teesside and later from South Wales.
It was a case of 'If you want to keep your job, move to Corby', Also...
In July 2009 Corby Borough Council was found liable for negligently exposing pregnant women to toxic waste during the reclamation of the former British Steel steelworks, causing birth defects to their children.[24] The judge found in favour of 16 of the 18 claimants, the oldest of whom was 22 at the time of the ruling. The ruling was significant as it was the first in the world to find that airborne pollution could cause such birth defects
Which explains the rest...

Just me, I don't ride too fast... Which is why I havent been on any rideouts for a while.. When the group leaders pinging 90 in a 60 what chance does anyone have of keeping up?! Plus i like to admire the scenery, while not wanting to become part of it! :D
This is more of a route tester, as there are bits I have not done before on the planned route

On to Aberystwyth then Lampeter and Llandovery... Stopping for fuel / food at somepoint as required..
Keep an eye out, as somewhere south of Aberystwyth Stretchies front sprocket nut from his Thundercat is probably still on side of road from all those years ago!
