Right folks, I've just dropped my seamaster in for a new battery and could do with a watch for the next month or so while its being sorted. Any recommendations for under 80 quid?

just got one myself, for a bit of a childhood revisited moment. £17.99 from the local jeweller's OK so is not big or bling but it was cheap and does what I need.
You can get them cheaper from amazon and the like...

that last one is the best so far. I quite facy this as a sorty type watch so i fancy getting something with either a heart rate monitor or some kind of other gimick (after all thats only what it is) maybe an altitude meter or something i could use on the push bike?
It takes a month to change a watch battery...
Did you get confused in todays heat and mistake a pet shop with a watchmakers? If so, call them ASAP.

So no suggestions on an actual watch? I'm thinking of picking up a g shock in town at lunch.

Just check the time on your phone?
I don't even have a watch, my phone handles that fine for me.

I've had a G-Shock for 15 years, it's never needed a battery and has no visible damage - amazing considering I spent the first year trying to kill it by duct taping it to my mate's RM250 rear hub when he raced, using a cricket bat to whap it across the workshop into the wall etc, but it just wouldn't die.

I just got bummed for 75 quid on a service on my Armani watch.
Though it does look like new and they replaced the dead battery.

Breil did mine and it tools 6 weeks, then let water in and then packed up completely. I bought a big steel men's Swatch that looks huge on my tiny wrist but now like it so much I've stuck with it. It's waterproof to 100m, but as I can't swim the AR paddling pool is as wet as it gets.
Buy the Hello Kitty one and girls will come and talk to you!

Looked at the g shock ones and nothing grabbed me. Can't find a decent one with built in hrm either.
Might get a timex as they seem cheap.

£120 for a battery/service on a Calibre1538 Seamaster in Harrogate!
I bought a TW Steel while it was away but if you're after a sports watch with HRM and Altimeter/Barometer/Compass try Suunto, Cotswold Outdoor have some on offer. I think www.facewest.co.uk (http://www.facewest.co.uk) sell them too.
I just dont see the point of spending £120 on a watch, never mind one that justifies a £120 service bill.
I just don't get it.

What's there to get? some people like to spend their money on quality jewellery that will last them a life time.
Even if you could buy x100 £15 casio watches with the money you don't really appreciate the quality and craftsmanship that have gone into making them,
have you ever seen the inside of a decent timepiece? Probably not.

Nope, still dont get it.
And yes I have marvelled at the workings of all kinds of machinery, doesn't make me want to rush out and spend money just to own it, but it does make me want to rush out and get the equipment and education to be able to do it myself.
what I dont get is why people still use battery watches when there is solar and kinetic technology. I prefer the solar watches as I dont wear them often enough to let the kinetic mechanisms keep charge. I have my 12 year old solar timepiece and it still hasnt run out of batteries or stopped :)

Cool I would be interested in seeing a custom home built watch and I would applaud anyone that did so.
Quick question why don't you build your bikes instead of buying them ?

I sent my old Tissot T-Touch back to the shop for a battery. Couldnt do it as they have to 'service' it at the same time and they dont carry parts for the movement any more, so they can sell me the new model for £300!!!
As for a watch, dependent on style really. Seiko & Pulsar do some nice units or get a swatch.
Had a poke around on the Watch Shop

I just don't get it.Whats to get? You porbably spend your hard earned on stuff other people would think twice of. Its jewelry, simples. As Clanger said, some poeple spend a lot, some people dont. Personally i have 7 watches ranging from £80 - £700. If i was seriously minted, then i would spend a small fortune on watches. Starting with something from the patek philippe range of watches. Now you are talking, house money for a time piece, but oooo, they are things of beauty. *Goes off for a cold shower*
This beauty (i like a cronograph) http://www.patek.com/contents/default/en/5204P_001.html
