View Full Version : Sometimes life is rough

Been not so good here the past couple of weeks.
On a Thursday, my Mum had her foot start swelling and turned out to be blood clots in her leg.
They operated on her on Friday and were successful in getting rid of the clots but were worried about circulation in the foot, telling us would decide on Sunday whether to amputate.

Sunday they say she is not stong enough to survive the operation and give her 1 month to live.
Monday they discover her kidneys are failing from the the leg surgery and give her 2 weeks to live.
Thursday they call me in saying she's less than 24 hours to live.

It's the night of my oldest sons graduation from uni and I sit and hold me Mum's hand as long as I can. She is nearly gone, unconscious now but still breathing.
It's hard to believe she's the same person you saw a week ago.
A half hour later, I am sat at my son's graduation holding my grand daughter and holding her hand. They have almost the same name, the same colour hair. The irony is enough to mess with my head.
We go back to see Mum afterwards but she hangs on until the next day.
Visitation at the funeral home was on Mother's Day Sunday. :(
Heavy rain at the graveside the next day.
At least she is not suffering anymore.

Then this week, everything got deleted from my mobile by
local support idiots and I broke my finger the same day.
(what a coincidence)
Fortunately going on a lovely 800 mile 3 day rideout in just a few hours!!! Bank holiday weekend here.
I really need to get away!

That is a rough time to go through, you sound remarkably strong to be able to talk about it like this.

I'm sure that talking about things will help, you have a huge community here who are happy to listen.

Stay strong buddy, our thoughts are with you.

Sorry to hear Bill, I've lost my mom too so know a bit of your pain.

It is frightening how quickly the human body can deteriate.

I found the best way to deal with deaths is to not shy away from talking about them, talk as though they are still around, smile and laugh about their little quirks etc, works for me anyway.

Enjoy your ride mate, sounds like you deserve it :)

Bill I lost my Dad last year, he went suddenly, my wife lost her Dad the year before, he passed away very quickly, and in similar circumstances to your mum, so my thoughts go out to you.

But like you I had a trip planned and it was just the tonic I needed to get all the stuff out of my head.

Never easy to deal with this stuff

Sorry to read this Bill. My mum has just left hospital (8 weeks for a broken collar bone that required no treatment as they kindly gave her an infection whilst whilst she was on the assessment ward). I thought at one point that we were going to lose her.

My thoughts are with you at this time. Remember the happiness she gave you.

Bill, I know we've never actually met but I'm so sorry to hear you having to deal with this all in one hit. Hope the ride gives you the time and space for some reflection and the chance to at least begin to come to terms with the loss of your mum.

Thanks all for your thoughts. Just going to take some time.

Sorry to hear all this Bill, my thoughts are with you.

You got the broken finger when you punched the support idiots? :)

If it had been blokes instead of burds maybe.
They gave it back to me saying it was fixed. Wasn't till I got back to work when I found out and punched a steel cabnet. Been years since I,'ve done anything that stupid.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Bill, tough times indeed. Just puts emphasis on how little we know of how much time anyone has left on this earth, you need to make the most of every moment you have with those you love.

My deepest sympathies to you and yours - a loss like that is always very hard.

It may come to all of us eventually, but it never seems the right time.
