I'll get your cup of tea next time we go out for a ride!
I want to trade in the beast plus £200-£300, I'm not looking for anything too shiny I'd be happy with one the same age or older than the Thunderace!:help:
Are you really 40+ already?!

Here it is man. Upright position, looks totally bad ass, and the ultimate hooligan machine. It has Nathan all over it ... maybe it was crashed into your face, and that's why. Cat D, hence the price. Looks like an easy fixer upper and close by! Actually ... not easy ... but it's the cheapest Duke I could find!

XJR1300 I've worked on three of these, couple of point, don't get the early one (when they did the standard & SP version) as the standard suspension was really bad, the SP had badged ohlins but a cheaper version, better but not brilliant, 105bhp/135mph is down to weight 224-5kg dry, and don't expect it to be great in the corners either as it has a long wheelbase, the engine is a mildly updated makeover of the 25year old FJR1200 lump, well proven if a bit long in the tooth these days, still relaxed riding position and pillions will love you.
Cheers Mark.

What about Normandy motorcycles? They only have a small shop so not always a great selection of stock, or mayhem motorcycles on ash road opposite the BP garage
Edit: although if you've got your mind made up on an xjr might be easier to sell your t'ace privately and then you can buy its replacement privately

Yeah I know it's not gonna be great in the bends and not the quickest but all I want now is something I can ride all day and not need a couple of days to recover, plus somewhere comfy for the wife coz she don't like the Ace.
I've been to mayhem! Where is Normandy motorcycles?:smt023

Funnily enough its in Normandy ;)
It's on the A323 Guildford road. Basically head through Ash as if you are going to Guildford and its down on the left hand side.
Theres also a bike shop in ash, I've not been in there for many years so no idea what their stock is like.

There's Motts motorcycles down here in Basingstoke mate, heard they're pretty good. Official Yamaha dealer so not sure what they stock, Yamaha obviously but not sure of other brands.

They're a Suzuki dealer. Could still get a bargain there, but you run the risk of it not being serviced properly, because their garage department is a joke.

Nah definitely Yamaha, they come up under Yamaha's official list of dealers and they've got yamaha plastered all over their site, but yeh I've heard their 'servicing' department isnt exactly great...

Might try bikers of baddesley if you dont mind the trip down southampton way.

Now, that is a surprise. They used to be an official Suzuki dealer. They always had a range of bikes, but they stocked mostly Suzuki. Suzuki GB still lists them as an official dealer, but I wonder if they've either changed tactics or perhaps had their dealership status revoked. Wouldn't surprise me. I think Alex complained in the end about them never changing one of his spark plugs in 3 services and effectively welding it to the head. :D

At one point they were definitely Suzuki and Yamaha and had it signed outside to say so,
SV1000 = Not powerful enough needs a couple more cylinders!:smt014
Hmmmm, Not sure about not powerful enough, more like differently powered. Certainly cheap as chips to buy and run though.
I think you may find any of the older big retro-nakeds a bit too wallowy in the bends after your bike. CB1000/ CB1300 etc are all well and good but I found them a tad boring unless pushed hard then they started to wallow a bit. Can probably be sorted with some money invested in suspension servicing/upgrades but given your budget not sure it will satisfy your needs.
As for local traders, Normandy are your best bet for cheaper, older bikes locally otherwise there are a few dealers round here who sell from lock-ups. just do a mileage search on bike trader and you'll soon find sellers with 10+ bikes who will be the local non-showroom traders.
Plus best bet is stick a wanted ad in the sweetshop window. Then you get the bike that's been sat in someones garage for a few years at a bargain price.

OK everybody mid life crisis over! Gonna' keep the ace for a while longer as she's worth more to me than anyone else will pay for her, plus we can't have Mark riding off into the sunset with nobody to keep him company!:p
Good decision. It's an appreciating classic. If you buy a cheap big bike all you're doing is buying someone else's problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Spend a few quid on some bling or a decent service and it'll see you right for a few more years.
Next time we go out we can see how an SV1000 goes if you give it the beans :)

Cool lets find a nice straight bit of dual carriageway and have a race:twisted:
I think we both know you've got me beat in the twisties if you really go for it!:-$
Need to be before you make it to TVAM though. Once you are told the secret of cornering I'll never keep up. You've got +40bhp on me not to mention about 3 stone lighter!
