Battery optimiser and alarm?

Need to sort a trickle charger out. I have a Datatool Evo and the manual recomends using a Datatool charger. If not then the inline fuse should be removed when on charge and put into service mode when charging.

Is this really the case in anyones experience?

I plan to leave the connectors on the battery so can just quickly plug in, having to remove the inline fuse if I don't use a Datatool charger seems a ball ache.

it probably means the difference between a "smart" and dumb charger, I'd imagine any of the complete cycle ones would be as good as the datatool, I have the oxford one as well as the optimate and both have charged various datatool equipped bikes over the years with no problem (and without removing fuses).
