So after last year there wasn't much question as to whether I'd be heading back to the Island again, though grand plans of having a few days over there didn't happen for various reasons, I got myself a spot sorted out for the Monday, Supersport, Superstock and a bit of sidecar practice.
Bit different this time in that the boat was up at Whitehaven instead of Fleetwood, for the fleeting promise of petrol on dockside... but it was not to be, much to the chagrin of our boatman who is still apparently there to this day shuffling back and forth to the petrol station with his debit card and a gallon can...
I was going to do a big write up like I did last year but not got the inclination, I am surprised how many people said they'd enjoyed my ramblings so sorry folks. Either I am disillusioned, or not p*ssed enough...
So we set off, had a fair decent run over, got a good spot under the footbridge at bray hill, met up with dyziowg. We got to see supersport, a bit of TTX, the sidecar loonies doing a practice lap, and then the mind-bendingly fast thou's in the superstock race. Unfortunately the race was delayed* by some inconsiderate buggers having a crash just before the course was closed off, until 6.30PM, which meant we had to miss the end of it. Only to find about 300 WAFI's had decided to moor up alongside the Fyne Pioneer, cue much skillful maneuvering, grunting and swearing to get the RIB out and all the other boats back alongside the dock...
Although the slightly late set off back did mean a good excuse to get the hammer down on the way back. So after all the rigmarole, got over the speed limit line in the harbour and gave the throttles a nudge, up onto the plane and slicing through the chop. 6l of thunder behind you doing 5050rpm apiece http://th177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/fallenangel-2007/th_HeadBanger.gif
The slight chop was knocking us down a bit, but the GPS was still indicating just over 45mph :smt023
Here's a vid shamelessly nicked from theboatman

Gav (yellow GSXR bloke from hardy bikers ride) and some reprobates we know; orose, Tom_the_great and myself lurking at the back (apparently looking like a columbian drug runner, amigos).
Nice vid that should give you some of the feeling of speed that you get from only 45 or 50mph on water. Still little to match the exhilaration of being out in the weather with the sting of the wind and spray and the song of a pair of big V6's gobbling down 150 litres of unleaded an hour (and the rest...)
Cracking day out, petrolhead heaven :bounce:
*Taking my dive kit next year...
