Threading here as not solely bike related!

Also, I just got offered £800 cash for the bike within 10 minutes of listing. Am I asking too little?

And on that note, he said he wanted to export it to Poland. I assume that creates V5 difficulties and is favourably avoided?

is he buying it in the uk, or wants you to export it? personally i'd say a scam if it's the latter

Why?

If he buys it and you insist he pays cash, the documentation is his concern. Loads of bikes end up there quite legitamately, not nessacelery a scam.

He says his friend will pick it up tomorrow morning in Egham. But surely if I send off V5 and DVLA don't hear back or something, I'm still responsible for it maybe?

to buy it without seeing it is a little odd. I'd be wary of what information you give out in regards to the location of the bike and who comes to see the bike. Public place and a few friendly faces is what i would do.

I would agree with the above usually, but with it being a 100,000 mile sub £1k bike, it's really not a bike scammers or thieves would target. Keep your wits about you though, as you should do with all sales.

^ this most definitely.

I've had mates sell bikes that have been exported to The Eastern block with no problems though.

If you send your documentation off, complete with all signatures, it should be fine. You can't be held responsible for the other party not sending their paperwork in.

He offered £800, I said "no, the price is £845" (but more nicely) and he simply sent back:

"ok thats fine
Please send me your phone number and address
Tom (his "friend") will come on afternoon
850 cash
thanks
regards"

I sold my crashed fireblade to an Estonian. Mate sold his bike to a pole. Same setup. One guy spends all day scouring ebay another guy fills a van and drives them home. As long as you have the cash in your hand and have filled out the v5 properly you'll be fine.

A mate of mine had a call from somebody late one evening, possibly Polish but not very good English, asking about his R1 for sale. The conversation didn't last long as neither understood each other enough. A short while later he got another call from somebody in the embassy explaining that the original caller wanted to buy his bike that evening.
A few hours later, knock at the door, and there he was with a wad of cash. He didn't even take a close look at the bike, just paid for it then loaded into a van.
I would say, as long as you have cash in your hand, let it go.......

What the hell do they do with them?

My guess is they strip them for parts. Most older bikes are worth more as parts than they are as a whole.

Ok, seems plausible. Make offers quick before my bike makes it to Poland!
