I have a lower left fairing which has cracked cleanly from the LHS running to the middle (approx 12inches).

Has anyone ever attempted to fix cracked fairings and how have they done it?

I am thinking of getting a thin flexible piece of metal which will run the length of the crack, bond it to the back of crack with some 2 part structural adhesive. After curing proceeding to get it resprayed. Will this work in anyone's opinion? Thanks

use a soldering iron and a cable tie to weld them back together.

connect both pieces together with masking tape on the front. turn fairing round and start just in from one edge melting the plastic with the soldering iron while melting dab the cable tie in the molten plastic then repete along the entire length of the break.

so you would 'push hot iron in-melt-push cable tie in-lift-move' etc.etc. its a very slight working up and down of about 2-3mm with the iron, depending on how hot your iron gets then you don't really need to touch the plastic much once started as you move the molten plastic along just like gas welding but your lifting and dropping the tip of the iron to 'stitch' the plastic together.. ooohhh and use a tip that looks like a flat bladed screwdriver.

Thin zip ties and a soldering iron..melt it all back together from behind.thats how i did mine..

ok guys this sounds like the way forward. So when it comes to getting it resprayed, will the melted tie wraps hold up to the job and the cracks wont reappear etc?

Cheers!

I would use fiberglas on det the back of the fering.
Sandpaper
Epoxy
Fiberglas
Epoxy
Fiberglas
Etc.....

I know a couple of racers that do it that way.
