So me and my fella' are going camping this week (fingers crossed) its round about 80mile there and we're going in a forest which has a owner.

I was just wondering since we're going on the bike is there anything thats ESSENTIAL (excluding sleeping bag, tent etc) we have a tank bag, big ruck sack and a set of panniers.

And does anybody have any advice for camping out with the bike?

Thanks :smurfin:

Sidestand puck.

It will stop the bike falling over :)

Camping under trees is very nice - but be aware it does mean if it rains, while you are sheltered in some ways, the drops that hit your tent will be larger due to collecting on leaves on their way down, so will be louder.

If you are camping amongst trees, take a big tarp with you - using bungees you will be able to rig up a big shelter that you can sit under to cook etc instead of just having your tent.

Always put 2/3rd of your available bedding beneath you, the ground leeches body heat much quicker than the air ever will, best bet an inflateable matress (even cheap Tesco beach lilo's will work nicely and they are cheap and pack down quite small)

If you forget a sidestand puck, a crushed beer can does the job very well too I've discovered ;)

Assuming 3m square tarp with grommeted holes along the sides and bungee straps, as well as trees/branches at about 2.5 meters height.

lay tarp out in position on ground.

hook bungee to eyelet in tarp, lift tarp up , put bungee around branch, cook other end to tarp eyelet.

Repeat at other corners

job done :)

I've always wondered why people say 'women belong in the kitchen' now I know why :p

Possibly a silly question but, does the owner know? If not you may have an interesting conversation at some point with them, or a gamekeeper, especially if there are breeding birds close by (it's nesting season remember).

Yeah he knows, he lets people camp there - probably for a small fee but he brings up firewood for the campers and stuff, and there's a campsite down the road at 2 pound a night but you're not allowed fires.

I've made the mistake of camping in private land without permission before. Not nice.

P.S. I don't fancy watching birds play hide the sausage.

Put your clothes in bin bags to keep them dry.and extra ones to wear .sit on.etc.
A good torch and stove .
