Wow..I checked my front sprocket this morning....OMG....Every other tooth broken....booked in on Tuesday for a new set....guy who sold me it told me had had replaced them. I think he had just put on a new chain and possibly a new rear sprocket...what a waste of money.:smt068
Never mind it will all be ok on Tuesday night.

Might not be the case here but I found riding while there was salt on the road over winter killed my front sprocket in a matter of weeks.
The salt kept causing tight spots in the chain, not matter how much I tried to clean it, and that's what ground the teeth down. Was a blessing in disguise though as I'm now getting better economy with two teeth up - new chain better quality too and hardly ever needs tightening.
How much are you paying for yours?

That's a good price - cracking if it includes fitting too.

It was going to be DID or similar...

Twins need a good grade of chain, don't use the very bargain bucket grade even if it is DID/tsubaki (only chains worth looking at, IMO). I don't think you can get this for £115 let alone fit it.

I have seen both advertised for £70 - £90...today

Yep loads on ebay for that money.
If you want a V/VX* chain with the cheapest pattern sprockets...
*But it's GOLD! With X RINGS! It must be ace!

DID VM xring is the bottom of the ring with DID. I think the C+S is about £85 at a dealer.
There is pictures of the state of a cheap set of C+S after small distance (for C+S's)

I got just over 20K out of the OE chain & sprox on my curvy by looking after them and no use in the salt-slinging season and requested OE parts when it was booked in to be changed, the shop initially wanted to fit pattern cr*p. I want to get another 20K out of them . .

I got mine from E-Bay, very good price for products that were a whole lot more at the shops. The set I ordered was beautifully made and the front sprocket was so well machined that it was actually pleasurable to lick it! The rear sprocket was somewhat different to the OEM, but it remains very shiny and super easy to clean. It has been on for a while now and with the chain oiler working away, never needs adjusting and yes I do check it. :-)

What does "bottom of the ring" mean?
VM is the "middle" grade and also fitted as standard.
They are doing the standard spec chain for £85?! It is listed as £173 on robinsons just for the chain...

Chris my mistake I've got the grades mixed up.
Should have been VX, which is £85

1) The V grade chain should not be fitted to SV as it won't last well
2) I don't think that price includes sprockets either
Come on man get your facts something like in order, reading your posts anyone would now think they were being ripped off when offered the correct grade of chain and it ends up costing £120 or more.
For my money I would be fitting Tsubaki Sigma (expensive, very heavy duty), or Alpha (middlin' grade, works fine). The Alpha is currently £85 at B and C plus shipping. Grade for grade tsubaki are cheaper and the life of the grades is broadly equal.

Chris you would be surprised how many places will stock V grades as replacement. That price was off wemoto.
