Hi,
i just took out a new policy with bike sure however they have just sent a letter saying that they have been notified that i had made a claim on 10/2011 for a theft and as i didnt disclose this my policy amount is going up.

After calling them they said it was a theft claim made with axa insurance. Now the strange thing is i have NEVER made a claim and i was previously insured (my only policy in my name) with devitt (groupama) during that period. I am also a named driver on two car policies but under my brother and dads name.

Now how can this claim be under my name if i have never had insurance with AXA neither have i ever made a claim with anyone on any vehicle.

this is really annoying, if someone has used my details.

any advice on how to fight this?

thanks in advance

You have to get them to back up their claim, put in an official complaint too.

Don't talk to them on the phone - put EVERYTHING in writing and keep copies. As TSM says, insist that they provide proof of this supposed claim. It's probably a simple admin error - one digit out on the policy number or the same name or something equally easy to check if they are forced to do so.

Almost certainly what's happened. PITA but it happens.

Give them a ring and ask them nicely to double check their information. If you don't get anywhere you can get a Data Protection disclosure and get to the bottom of it that way but that all takes time and in the meantime you're not insured.

You could just insure somewhere else but, for various reasons, it's worth sorting this out.

Have your Dad or brother made a theft claim by any chance?

thanks for replies. TamSV your closest.

My sister had her bike stolen but recently moved out so forgot about that. Her surname and address was the same at the time. So when they call on monday will let them know it was my sister. but surely they should check the first name and not just surname. annoying really as it got me sh*t scared

So fingers crossed they sort it.

The only way you would still have a problem is if you were on your sisters insurance and you were the last person to use her bike before it was stolen.

If none of that applies then it should be fairly easy to sort out.

Nope wasn't on her policy, and hardly ever used it although i was insured 3rd party on my own policy to ride it.

plus it got stolen while she was visiting someone up in east london so should be cut and dry but you never know with these insurance people

cheers
