Hello everyone.

I'm new to the forum (After battling the registration process. Damned thing called me a spammer ;)) and as you guessed, I LIKE THE SV xD

My name is Miller, I'm 18 and I live in central London. I'm currently riding a Yamaha YBR 125 on a CBT having failed Mod2 :(
Payday is just around the corner so i'll be giving it another crack soon enough.

I'm here because when I pass this damn test, i'm gonna go out and buy an SV650 (restricted :(). I've been looking at the K7 onwards just because I've been finding them with RIDICULOUSLY low mileage. 2008 bike with 2k miles etc.

Anyways, thats the hello out of the way.

Question time.

Between the K7/K8/K9 are the any problem years? Any models to avoid? common issues?

I look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks in advance.

K7 to k9 the same bike except for paint colour. No generic issues.

Lots of info on here about changes to suspension etc if you want to but basic bike is sound if slightly budget.

I've got a K9 with ZX6 rear shock on it now. Handles so much better. Also while your there get the front end done too. Plenty of threads about suspension on here. You could spend thosands on getting the bike to your spec but is it really worth it? Not really.

A dealer will want stupid money for a K9 but shop about on ebay, pistonheads & autotrader and you will get one hell of a lot cheaper.

I've heard that the standard shock is pretty pants. Without owning an SV (yet) I cant decide for myself. I was looking at replacing the stock spring with a hyperpro spring because switching the entire shock seemed like a big job. How tough was it to do?

Don't know if you can change just the spring. In any case, its usually the damping that fails first, unless you are too heavy for the spring (you can wind up the pre-load then). Having said that, my stock shock on my 2006 15k miles was absolutely fine as I'm not over large or carry a pillion. Ride it first before you go changing too much. A K7, 8 or 9 is unlikely to be worn out at such low miles in any case.
Pages and pages of info on changing the shock on the site if you search well.

Hi guys, girls. I just passed my mod 2 on the 19th june. A2 ftw! I bought a k6 sv650s full faired. Let me tell you upgrading from that 125 feels like heaven. If you do buy the sv it shouldn't have anything major. I purchased mine of mcn and its brill.
