Hi everyone,

New poster here, I dropped my lovely bike last year and petrol tank got damaged (paint cracked).
Although small area is affected, the whole thing needs re-spraying - and the question is - who is doing this locally (Surrey, I live in Dorking)?

I am fine with taking tank off the bike, I just need someone knowing how to use the paint ;)

Can anyone recommend the place/person?
TIA!

The other option (the one I went with),get a Bagster Tank Protector, which then provides you with a multitude of options of tank bags in the Bagster range :)

Man, I have already got it!
Bought one on ebay right after it happened... (I cleaned and secured the crack first)

I don't mind riding like this, I just thought I could finally get it fixed - it is one of those annoying little things which you should probably leave alone - and they not cheap to fix either! :)

It may be worth keeping an eye on the for sale section & ebay, as sometimes a part in good condition comes up at a price cheaper than repairing and re-spraying.

That said, I'm sure a company will be able to fill, sand, prime and spray the tank for a not unreasonable figure, I'm afraid I don't know anyone local though.

Reckon it'd work out cheaper to buy a new tank than to pay for it to be sanded down properly, filled properly, primered properly, base painted..top coated..cut back...polished...sealed...

Spraying properly is a big job as it takes a shed load of time in the prep, few 'sprayers' are willing to put the time needed in to make a long lasting job out of it. So no doubt the filler will eventually warp and crack and the whole thing needs doing again.

new tank is not an option - way too expensive!

Second hand one?

still around £300 so I hoped to get it painted for less

Mate got one for about a ton on ebay, strange that a second hand one was £300...just had a look and sure enough...rip off central! Might be worth contacting someone who's breaking one? Just make sure whoever sprays it has a good reputation, spraying over filler isn't an easy job...can crack so easy!

i dont know about NOS sv tanks but new suzuki tanks come up on ebay occasionally,a while ago(about a year) i bought a brand new unmarked mark 1 600 bandit tank for a little over a ton,so bargains are there to be had if you look hard enough and long enough
