thought i would start one of these as idle banters not really the right place to fill with pictures :)

so got the bike last sat

its in showroom condition, but has a few niggles

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/barwell1992/7f5a8b46.jpg

so it has a crap tank pad, a remus powercone and a power comander PCIII usb,R&G tail tidy

the niggles were/are the power was verry lumpy down low and constantly popped on de accele and the indicators keep blowing the fues

the indicator problem has gotten worce so iv given up looking for the problem and ordered another wiring loom as my loom looks spot on but i know its the loom just not where

the popping issue was solved by plugging the air box feed to the AIS (air pulse system to the exhaust for emissions)

then i tried a few maps on the power comander but they were all the same lumpy down low, but i then decided to pull the baffle out of the exhaust and bingo it rant great

then i started tinkering with it, first i cut the air box inlet out as its stupidly restrictive, and then took a hammer and chisel to the cat, then mapped it again, decent improvement in the midrange and a huge kick when you hit 7k

velocity stacks from GB moto are in the post, then all i need to do it mod the secondary throttle butterflies and map again from what a few people say that should see near enough 150bhp at the wheel

as far as suspension goes iv set the sag and gone 2 clicks up on every thing, but think ill back rebound off on the rear shock (its crap)

at some point a ohlins will find its way on to the bike

also dropped the forks in the triple clamps
http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/barwell1992/IMAG0689.jpg

washed clayed, polished and waxed the paint
http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/barwell1992/IMAG0680.jpg

made my own bar ends, so i can clamp new mirrors to them

and made my own abba stand adapters beats buying them

I've read that the throttle on the new ones (yours) works a bit like an on/off switch, how do you find it?

its not that bad at all, it was the 2006 bikes that were worce, you can get a fuel cut eliminator that stops the problem and give 10bhp in the mid range (dyno proven) but havent had a problem so far, but that could be the PCIII masking the problem

dkid its very under rated, the suspension isn't to bad if your about 15st and under in gear, at my 16.8st im pushing it a bit and is awful 2 up but the handling is actually rather good, and fairly flick-able, its a very solid bike when pushing it, and the power is epic above 7k on another plus side as well is theres loads of mods, and loads of tech help, and the icing on the top is 85mph in 1st gear and £10 to do 75miles isnt to bad at a fair old pace

After seeing the TT marshals riding them on the course, I can't get the big Fazer out of my head (but the pre 2006 fzs)

Might have to change the sig though ;)

haha :p to be honest its quite a vibey engine not like some 600 il4's and other thous its due to the heavy crank they put in for the fz to down tune the r1 motor, the engine gets a lot of abuse in reviews but i really cant see why, it spins up fast even with the tall final gearing and will lift the front wheel at WOT in 4th if you hit a small bump at around 8k in the rev range

and it will still pull from 50mph in 6th to well over a tone in a matter of seconds, takes off much quicker than the sv could in most gears from around the same speed

only thing to mention is the foot pegs and rear sets are crap and rubber mounted so move, the bars are also rubber mounted so theres some lack of feel but thats not hard to sort out

Mine is the 2006 version and it's fantastic.

I know they're the cheapest type but the speedking rearsets I have are not too bad

Just had a wee test ride on one today and I can confirm that the throttle is very on/offish. Feels really choppy. Other than that I loved it. Much the same power wise as the CB1000R I tried a couple of weeks back but the FZ has a 160 mile tank range as opposed to the Honda's 100 - 110.

I would most certainly have one. :D

Aye a power commander is seemingly the fix. Apparantly this issue has been fixed for bikes 2008 onwards.

Don't think the power commander does fix this.

The FCE fixes an issue of the injecctors being cut off completely when rolling off the throttle.

A pal of mine has an 09 plate FZ1 and he has put in a different rear light. Its LED with inbuilt indicators. Really tidies the back end up IMO and looks excellent.

I've seen them and don't think I could be bothered with being pulled over all the time. I believe these are illegal...

I'm not 100% sure on the minimum spacing between Indicators, it's on this forum somewhere but I don't think the tail light will meet specifications

bloody front sprocket nut wont come off, going to impact it off at work...

im going to fit a smoked rear light at some point just finding one thats not to over the top

ohh and building myself an ohlins next month, will be a 2 way with a piggy back but no hydo preload adjuster using mostly used parts so should cost me a fair bit less than buying a new one (at cost)

Nice looking stuff! May I ask whybthe two short and two long stacks?

Mine are all the same size...

barwel1992
11-07-12, 09:57 PM
Cheers, the stack in short/long config Smoothes out the power band long for mid range and short for top end, these are 15mm shorter than stock , what stacks have you got

The guy before me put them on and from memory I'm sure they are Factory Pro.

Very fiddly when removing and replacing...

barwel1992

Ahh right thought they sounded like factory pro ones , any idea what length they are ?

today i started to fit cut down sub throttle flies, and test fitted stacks having two 70mm ones made up so two will be for mid range and two for top end so should smooth out the power map

been a while since i last updated this, i now have short/long vstacks on and the mid range is better although theres less kick higher up and im not sure i like that

next on the list is rear sets and new bars, also going to start trying to fit a TT44 rear shock that will be 4 way high speed comp mid speed com and low speed comp and reb just have to check the logistics of it out first

What's the reason for sale? It's a great bike!

barwel1992
24-03-13, 11:05 PM
I still like it and would keep it if I could have two bikes, I wanted something a bit slower and fun to ride, the fz made me into a bit of a nut if I'm honest .

The main reason was I wanted some thing to use in the winter as I'm going to be riding all year round so wanted somthing a bit more robust

The replacment
