View Full Version : Loom simplification for race use?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is any way to simplfy the loom on the SV engine, its for my kart project so I don't need to have a speedo or rev counter - I have a Mychron steering wheel that takes the RPM from an inductive loop around the spark wire.

I am just wondering what I might need to do to simplfy the setup considering its running on carbs theres a lot of wiring lol it can't all be just to run the coils and starter motor lol

I could almost just rewire the starter motor as a switch to the battery rather than going via the loom. Just trying to make my life easier instead of fitting the mass of wiring into the kart if half of it isn't needed, wish it was CDI lol :D

The engine ran fine from the engine supplier I got it from but I believe they grounded the coils to the battery vs the frame, just trying to simplify it down a bit thats all.

Thanks in advance

First step would be to get yourself a wiring diagram for the model year loom you have, then start taking out pieces that arent required. Or you could build a fresh loom from scratch and only include what you need.

Ok I will have a look, I do have a loom diagram but it seems that a lot of things are interdependant lol I chose the carb engine as it should be easier to sort out rather than having an ECU and fuel injection on top of everything lol just wondering if anyone had an SV race bike that they might have modded to take out any of the stuff thats not needed already.

It seems that there is a race loom available which I am tempted:

Just doing a track bike up and there is no end you can cut out, right in the middle of it at the minute but I'll forward the wiring diagram ( curvy) tonight

Thanks mate thats spot on, ive got in contact with that company with regards to the race loom, I don't need things like lights or indicators or indeed a tacho lol I just need the coils to fire when it should, the starter motor to spin and the battery to charge lol

Thanks Phil, my loom might be even more stripped out vs a race bike as I won't even need a tacho attached to the loom, although will probably need the oil and temp warning bulbs etc.

Right found it, Zoran's hard work not mine, but I've used this on both my sv's, with my big bruvs help as he's used it before, then I've got an acewell wired in as well

cheers

Phil
