Newbie Introduction

Hi guys n gals,
been looking at the forum for the last week or so and thought it best to register!
I have always been a car man (and they will always be first in my life) owning a succession of fairly rapid road cars, mainly because bikes were the forbidden fruit!
Then last year, things changed I suddenly became interested in bikes, the wife calls it my midlife crisis and as I was 39 at the time I was not going to argue! lol
So I did my CBT last July went out and bought a CBR125 the same day.
I rode on L plates until April this year when I sailed through my theory, mod 1&2 even with the torrential rain!!
I only did the test on my 125 so I am limited to 33bhp but thats not a problem for me.
I am now in the process of looking for my next bike ;) although I have only managed to talk the wife into a 250 so far...........even though she is none to happy about that lol To e honest I am struggling to justify the reasons why I need anything bigger though ho hum!
My initial thoughts was to get the newish cbr250r but after doing a lot of internet searching an SV650s could be the bike for me.
I am just waiting for a ppi claim to be sanctioned to release the funds so I can get a new bike, although searching ebay and autotrader there are not many in my area! Must live in a biking black hole lol
I am also amazed by the variation in prices, not only bikes but the cdi's too - read on here and apparently they go for well below £100 but looking on ebay the cheapest is nearly double that and one is supposedly selling for £300:confused:
fingers crossed when I have the money I can get one cheaper,
that is if I do not get a cbr250r lol

Welcome mate. Where you from? What cars did you own?

A restrict SV650 is still quite rapid. There are a few of us in the Guildford Massive who ride restricted bikes and still blat past everything, until the dreaded 80mph barrier. Then the rest of us get to annihilate them on the straights. :D

Thanks for the welcome! I live in Telford, Shropshire.
Currently own a Seat Leon FR with a stage 1 remap, 240 bhp.
Have also owned a succession of modded turbo'd cars in the past, Fiesta, Escort, Renault 5 as well as an XR2, XR2i and a 2.5 V6 Vectra.

I used to love cars but not any more! Bikes are loads more fun and you can actually use half of the performance! Any car with more than 200bhp (maybe even 150) is wasted on the road. A bike like the SV is much quicker, even when not in rush hour traffic! You won't look back now.....

Some nice roads around you and not too far from Wales either!

Ahhh, fun history. I used to have a Cupra R, but had to sell it to buy a house. :rolleyes: Before that I had a Skyline R33 GTR, so I know the joy of turbos. :D

Get an SV mate. You'll be happy with it. Don't be put off by the old curvy carb models either. There are plenty in good condition and they just as good as the pointies. :)

Btw, yes, Bikes are much more fun than cars. You'll realise how crap driving is when you switch back to the car and find yourself constantly behind slower drivers. When you're on a bike, you own the road and everyone on it. :)

I had the road GT version, the one with the motor behind the driver and rear wheel drive was just called the turbo and was a rally version also sold for the road.

Evening, welcome to the loony bin. Get the SV - then you've got a proper excuse to hang around here. Nice car history btw. Oh, except for the Vectra. My 2.5 Mondeo would have whupped it's ass!
