I've just built my first pc and I'm a noob so please don't shout at me too loudly :help:

Ok so it's all up and running, the only problem is the bios automatically sets the ram to 1600MHz. When I turned on the pc for the first time I went straight in to bios and noticed it was on 1600 so changed it to 1866, but windows wouldn't install. So I changed it back, and windows installed fine. But now when I manually change it to 1866 windows blue screens.

I've just ran memtest86+ for 13 passes (23 hours) and it didn't find any errors, so the ram itself is fine. The bios has been updated. The dual ram is in slots A2 B2. Is there anything else that needs changed when changing the ram speed?

Here's the specs
Asus M5A97 PRO AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3
AMD FX 4170 Quad Core Processor - 4.2GHz, SKT AM3+, 12MB, 125W, PIB
Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
Windows home premium 64 bit SP1

Is the CPU clock speed set correctly?

Check the ram timings and voltage settings for your ram and then compare with the settings in the BIOS.
TBH you wont see a noticeable difference really.

I think these are the settings for your ram after a quick google. (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-302-CS)

If so check/try the below settings in red.

- Tested together at 1866MHz, Vdimm = 1.50V, at latency settings of 9-10-9-27 on Intel DDR3-based motherboards.

- SPD programmed at: JEDEC standard 9-9-9-24 values at 1333MHz.

- XMP 9-10-9-27 values at 1600MHz, 1.50V

emm dunno. How do I check that?

I know, it would just be nice to have them at their full potential.

disable XMP and do the settings your self XMP is auto setting your ram at 1600

"- XMP 9-10-9-27 values at 1600MHz, 1.50V"

Changed it manually to 9-10-9-27 and it is working fine now :D

Cheers hindle
