Anyone stayed in a reasonably priced hotel or travel lodge type place in Annecy?

I'm going to France for 10 days in just over 7 weeks, we are mainly staying in etap/ formula 1 type places but they tend to be out of the towns and cities, but we want to spend time in Annecy so would prefer something fairly central with bike parking etc if possible.

Cheers

No, but perhaps go through Tripadvisor to find some reviews. I've done other trips through the usual portals of Expedia and Laterooms. See what folk say on the reviews

Here's a Hostel in the centre of Annecy, cheap but just refurbished

No probs,

I think this hostel site is quite good as so long as you don't mind not having some of the hotel facilities its a bloomin cheap way of staying overnight.

But staying in etape's & formula 1's is good, the guy who works at my local tyre fitters did a French trip that way, comfortable bed & showering facilities means you don't have to lug so much stuff with you.

That's what I'm hoping, I would've preferred to camp tbh but the wife won't for 10 days.
Campsites give you more options IMO but hey ho.

I will eithe use etap or formula 1 premier (or whatever it's called) as these have ensuites which is better when you've got a woman with you ;)

Yes, they do like their home comforts don't they :p

Mind you, at my age I can't be arsed with tents & foam mats anymore, I'd rather slum it in an Etape, Formula 1 or Ibis. Even at the AR I'd opt for the bunkhouse and put up with Dicky Tickers snoring, than camp if I can help it. Plus ear plugs weigh a lot less than a tent :D

Keep the thread updated Phil, we are off in a fortnight and may end up there. Be interested in anything you turn up.

IBIS is the next step up from ETAP Phil, same hotel group (Accor). Similar cost to a premier travel inn or travel lodge in a city centre here (ie: 55 quid odd)

I know it sounds tight Col, but i don't really wanna be spending £55 a night tbh, over 10 days that makes a big dent into my limited budget :(

If i can spend £30-£35 ish that makes a huge difference.

Most nights, it is just literally gonna be somewhere to sleep and get a shower (no rude comments here)

OK, from the OP, I thought you wanted to 9 nights in ETAP / F1 elsewhere, and spend a bit more for one night in Annecy centre ville.

Must be the dates you are after. You said seven weeks, so I just looked for the 22nd August, and it came up at 63 quid.

Right, just tried date on their website, £47 excl breakfast, but and its a big but, they dont have parking, its a pay car park (municipal) 5 mins walk away :( im not trusting the bike there.

Shame cos location is perfect, its right in the middle.

Worth checking out this underground car park next door?

On their website it said 5 mins away for municipal car park, its free from 7pm to 7am i think or something like that if its the same one i looked at earlier.

It worrys me if im not close to it, if it was a car i wouldnt care, but a bike can be stolen extremely quickly.
I know its unlikely but id rather it be in the car park of actual hotel tbh.

Trouble is, most hotels in the centre dont have parking from what i can gather.

It is always worth asking if they have a garage Phil, I've put my bike in the owners private garage a few times in France. They understand the worry of your bike getting stolen. Worth an email.

In terms of looking for hotels, I find Logis de France http://www.logishotels.com/en/ really good. The hotels are privately run and generally very nice, but a little more per night. Had some cracking places to stay though.

We are just winging it on our trip, book a hotel when we want to stop kind of thing, so booking in advance is not really an option. I prefer it that way since having stuff booked puts you on a mission to make your next stop, so those interesting little detours have to be ignored... :(

My only worry with that is getting somewhere late then struggling to find a place.

I will take your advice though and email them just in case, they may even be able to offer an alternative.

Phil, you got my texts so you know we stayed in the Nouvel Hotel in their most expensive room

The tourist information office were very helpful, finding it was a mission though. Satnav would most definitely been useful navigating the one-way systems of Annecy!

Finding a hotel in 30+C in leathers will test your good humour.

Hey mike, forgot to ask, did that hotel have secure parking for the bike?

Luckypants

No it didn't Phil, we parked on the pavement opposite and locked the bike to a post. We could also see it from our windows.

It was fine and TBH I have never had a problem leaving my bike parked on the street in France. I worry more about the bike at places like F1 hotels where there is a more 'dodgy' clientèle and they are often in less salubrious areas. I found the places with a garage were in places where I'd be happy to leave the bike on the street and there was always a charge of 5-8 euros for using the garage - but we only actually got charged once. :D

Phil, hope this should show you to one about 20 mins from the lake.
I havn't stayed at this one but used several from Bike-stay website on both France trips both last year & earlier this year.
Found them all to be very good & great value.
Could drop them a line & see what you think:lol:

Thanks guys.

I've had a message back from the ibis one I looked at originally and apparently there is secure parking at their sister hotel next door so might give them a try as they are less than 500 metres from main part oh and did mention they are cheap :)

Don't know any hotels in Annecy, but I can recommend an awesome pizza joint, and a bar that sells the most expensive beers in the whole wide world!
