Hi all,

This has baffled me some what!

So my side stand has a lot of play, I popped it off, cleaned greased and put back on,still wobbly.

When the bike is on side stand it leans further down,so when you swing your leg over to stand bike up right its a bit of an effort.

Haynes manual has not shed much light,I assume its just the main nut and bolt.Nut tightens stand by screwing in the back, bolt just secures it.
Yet the stand still has a lot of play.

Do the stands warp? or the bracket its self- Cant see how it could be the spring, the spring would not be that tight to withhold the weight of the bike!

Any ideas anyone?

Steve

they do bend and wear over time. how much play do you have?

Quite a bit-enough to be worried about.

when it is on the bike, how much play do you have between the stand being down and then pulling it away from the bike? mine has a fair amount, an inch or so i think

Over an inch, the bike leans quite far over when the stand is down-and this has got further over the months.

They can wear. It wont be the nut and bolt. Its the metal end of the kickstand and the bracket having too much gap.

Yeah that's exactly the problem. So would i need a new bracket and kickstand?

You should be able to use a washer(s) to shim the gap so long as neither the stand or bracket aren't too worn through. Mine's the same and I plan on adding it to my ever increasing jobs list for the summer holidays.

I have a little play on mine, but only when it's down, not up. I am not concerned about it!

I've removed mine to increase ground clearence, it works for my weekly trip to the gas station and the go-cart track we drive on every wedensday. I tried to fit my gixer sidestand to see if that will give me more ground clearence, but the bracket and the stand doesn't have the same tickness/opening, but it looked close, I will measure it, maybe find the file and make it fit.

i see, maybe i will try and use washers....although this morning i was taking my wheel off and i noticed a crack on the bottom of the shock where the bolt goes through, then the bottom fell off! new forks and new front tire needed...fed up now!
