Has anyone on here got their own machine or manual breaker?
Been looking into one for at home just for DIY purposes (if the price is right) as I never have the time to get them fitted. Theirs some manual breakers on eBay for 50 to 60 quid which look a bit dubious as to if they really work that well (I will YouTube look later).
Anyone got one?

Good morning.
The Abba manual bead breaker is pretty effective. I still have one, although I haven't used it in years. As I have a proper tyre changer with a pneumatic bead breaker.
Cheers.

You can get old school versions of this
http://www.motorsport-tools.com/sealey-tyre-changer-pneumaticmanual-tc962-p-249259.html
from £100 upwards (sometimess less), mainly on popular auction type websites, the older ones are probably built better, the bead breaker is pneumatic so just hook it up to your compressor. Me and Squirrel were interested in buying one years ago but neither of us had a compressor back then so it was a no go.
Have a look at this too

You don't need owt special.
Couple of bits of 3x2, a heavy duty hinge... bolt a bracket to a wall or use the towbar of van or whatever to lever against.
Or a big vice.

Thanks peeps. I didn't think of making one!
Watched stretchies vid on my tea break and knocked one up, its not a thing of beauty but it should work. I'll anchor it onto the wall when I get in and try it on a spare set of rims, will put a pic up if it works

Cool, after you've bent all your spoons getting the new tyre on, will you balance them?
If so, how?

Found a web blog thing were some bloke in America has made his own diy tyre shop in his garage, its all steel but he has made a balancer, its the same design as a prop blancer, I have a tiny prop balancer to work from so I just need to up scale it and bobs your teapot

At least with a wooden one you will not chip or mark the rims.

Yeah same as that with two cone shaped spacers to hold the wheel parallel and allow it to spin freely
I will when I get home on Sunday

Use the axle and some axle stands.
Balancers are easy. Have a look at a pro manual balancer for ideas. Just need a coule bits of 3x1 with Vs cut in the top a bar to put through the wheel and some cone shaped pointy things to go in the wheels. Its all about it moving with little friction.
As i said though, seems a lot of effort to save £35 once a year/6 months dependent on tyre use.

Its simple.... I'm a tight ****
Personally I think 35 quid just to swap tyres is ridiculous. Second tyre swap this year.

Also very helpful not having to p*ss about taking it elsewhere, do it yourself whenever.

And if you've got a couple of bikes it's even better.
Bloody stupid Wideboy putting ideas in peoples heads. Give me a few months and I'll make one for the garage, if for no other reason than I can and it'll look great in the garage next time my dad comes down.

exactly
35 quid was the walk In price aswell. Pretty much all the tyre places round here are 9 - 4.30 which is no good for the tiny population of non-gyro collectors in southampton.

I bought the pocket size one,http://www.sumomoto.com/china-motorcycle-stand/index.files/pocketwb.jpg
used two drawers and watched a youtube movie and hey presto done. I bought this bead breaker from a Norwegian type of Halfords, £55.
Two wheel changes to save money, money spent on other bike stuff.http://www.biltema.no/ProductImages/82/medium/82-542_m.jpg

You're getting ripped off, i go to a garage and get it done for £20. That's not swapping tyres, that's replacing tyres-so it's the removal of wheels, tyres, fitting new tyres, balancing, valves and disposal of tyres. http://www.rideinbiketyres.co.uk/
I just get my mechanic to do mine on our electro-pneumatic tyre machine and balance them on the electronic balancer when I want them doing... or I do them myself if I feel like keeping my hand in.
Cost = £0.00
:-)
you forgot to say that you also get your tyres at trade..
Lozzo have i ever told you your a plonker :-)
