Cmon guys give me some opinions here...
Will be used for all sorts of riding, but as I travel a bit for the longer rideouts/tours it must be practical-ish/comfortable on longer rides. i.e euro tour
Wont be buying new - looking at carelesschucca's model triple or christopher's gsxr model. Cant remember what year models they are, I cant even remember how old I am.
Looking for info/opinion on things like cost of owership, replacement parts, yada yada.
Pros for triple:
-slow me down on straight lines (license, life)
-more leverage for tight twisties
pros for gsxr's:
-look sexy as hell
-love the howling il4 noise (like the triple's on arrow's but not as much)
-more trackable? Although I dont do loads of TD's anyway.
Not test rode any yet but will be doing so soon.
PS Dont try to convince me to keep the SV please. We've fallen out. Thanks.

Each has its own characteristics but you will find the triple nearer the SV in regard to engine torque and braking. Smaller cc IL4 have to be kept on the boil to attain the same results that are easier to achieve with a triple.
Go and have test rides before you part with your cash

Oh certainly, I will test ride all before I choose. But just wanted a wider audience of opinions as the SV is the only bike I have ever owned and perhaps I'm not thinking of things others would

Looks sexy .fast but no faring so you know your doing the national limit .
Comfy compared to a Gixer .
Stick a pipe on it so your be heard round the twisties .

Hmm, looks nice.
Another consideration is that I can fit on the GSXR without modifying seat height, Triple I can fit on my lowering with standard shock.
DOnt want to be messing around with lowering kits etc if I can help it. Seat height on specs can be deceiving as it doesn't say how wide the seat is etc, or body position.

that gsr is gorgeous!!!

Another plus is slipper clutch (k6-7) on the gsxr as standard.
Must also mention I'm looking at the triple r not standard.

Hong, I doubt you'll be able to lower the GSXR far enough so you can safely flat foot. No offence intended
I'm with the rabble and saying GSR or Street trip as they do a low seat as a factory option. Left field (but will slow you down slightly) would be the current KTM Duke if you can afford new prices
I'm sure I'm going to get flamed on this but check to make sure you are going to be comfortable in the riding position of the gsxr for long periods of time. I stuck on heli bars on the front which helped but still find the suspension very very firm. Also the luggage pannier options are limited, so far I have seen rentec rack or ventura. My custom rack went awol courtesy of Farce2go.
hong your a short arz just like me in fact your only about 1" taller so your living in fairy land thinking you can get on a triple or gsxr safely without lowering it. i seen you sitting on the srad m8 and you were doing a ballet dancer act. don't be a fool and factor in money to lower what ever you get so its SAFE.
Second getting lowerd .
It makes sense.mirrors indy s all mount up .
Looking good till you stop at an uneven set of lights and dropping it .Not fun.

Lack of a screen annoyed me on my Hornet which is why I've just bought a K5 GSXR 600. Pros- Great sounding engine, quick, good handling, screened from wind blast, kerb appeal :). Cons- Uncomfortable! I've found that small ajustments make a massive difference. Angling levers down as far as they go has helped wrists and back. Also riding with balls of feet on pedals most of the time takes weight off the back (maybe I'm teaching granny to suck eggs).
I'm only 5'7 and can get one foot flat on floor which is safe enough for me.

I could be wrong (often am) but i'm sure he could get one foot flat on Chris' 750 at GM. Hence why hes so keen.
Mate whatever you get, remember we've all got to have the same bike for next years trip so we look like bummer boys :smt116

Opinion polls are good, but you won't be happy with a bike someone else chooses for you. Go out, take your time, test ride =)
Take your time and you'll be one very happy bunny !!

750, same agility as the 600, but less tiring on long trips as its not a buzzy.
But I would say that..
buuuut it will have to have ABS or your going to get hurt.

Doubt the Street Triple will slow you down it has the torque of a 750 just doesnt rev as hard in the powerband. It goes all the way up to just short of 150mph and a 100mph is there in a blink of an eye

Are you sure this don't temp you? I didn't like them at first but this model looks fantastic.
For me the GSXR600 is a great bike but if you're doing a fair bit of touring go with the GSXR750 over the 600. The street triple is great too but for me there are just so many of them out there now, I think I'd want something a bit different.
I really like this GSR pwoooarrr!

Thanks for the feedback peeps.
One big reason why I chose these 3 bikes is because I have sat on them and I can fit on them. I can fit on Chris' Gixxer better than I can fit on my SV. Go figure. SRAD is a definate nono.
I'm a bit on the fence with the GSR. Initial thoughts are I like it but something (can't quite put my finger on it) bugs me.
Pretty much everyone has said 750 over 600 so I'll take heed of that (test ride depending).
Sooo really it's one extreme to the other. Upright nekked or ar$e up head down supersport!
I have a trumpet dealer close by. Just need to find a Suzuki one.
oh, and def can't afford much more than 6kish I think.
Dave, next years trip on monkey bikes. I'll flat foot those no problems :)
We'll see what the test rides bring eh!
Oh dont discount a V twin

Having recently test ridden all three I think you'll go for the 750 out of those.
Triple is fine, but I couldn't cope with the wind blast. The 750 is just a better package than the 600.
Popped into a triumph dealer against the weekend and sat on another triple and I swear it's taller than the GSXR.

How do we feel about ex-demo bikes?
Low mileage, but possibly abused before the engine is even run in??
Provided it came with a useful warranty, and the price reflected the fact it was 2nd hand, I'd be fine with it.
After all, the only way to be certain what's happened to a bike is to buy it off the factory line, and never lend it to anyone. That seems expensive and kinda dull :)
Modern engines are pretty solid anyway, and are you really going to keep it long enough to care whether it's using a little oil by 60,000 miles?

Not sure about completely flat foot but yeah he's spent enough time sitting on/drooling over it and can easily fit on it :D I don't think most people realise just how tiny these machines are, as LPH says it's a girls bike (she also fits them with ease).
But with saying that, despite it's size I'm more than happy to do 400 miles in a day on it without question. Guess it comes down to body shape and flexibility if you're going to find it comfortable, at just over 6ft everyone told me it'd feel too small but it really doesn't.
It's an awesome bike, but it will be sold when I decide what I want next as it's just too easy to ride stupidly fast and doesn't really excite me unless keeping it above 10k RPM. It's silly, on test riding both the 600 and 750 I preferred the grunt and overall characteristics of the 750 but now I've put 6,000 miles on it I sort of wish I had a 600 to work the engine a bit more. And on that note...
oh, and def can't afford much more than 6kish I think.!
...wait till I find my next bike you can buy mine (it's a K6 on a 2007 plate by the way). Especially if you're going to give me £6k :p Although it will be October at the earliest as it's being taking around the Nürburgring before being sold! More likely to be February/March next year.

Depends if you think a bike really needs running in.
When I test ride I don't hoon it around and smack through the gears as I'm not familiar with the bike and I don't want to damage it. But I'd would want a big discount to by ex-demo. Might as well go for nearly used in second hand market if you are worried though.
I was going to suggest trying out the CBR600F as it seems to meet the touring/sports riding but I think it might be a bit tall. I'm really enjoying mine now I've got to know it.
The K6 onwards GSXRs are small and so much thinner than the K1-K3s or SRAD so I can see why you feel comfortable on them.

If it a dealer demo, it'll be okay (people usually behave on them as their is a £1000 excess if they drop them).
If its ex Suzuki GB, its more than likely had a jurno at the bars

Interesting...nice write up Chris. If you do finance I might consider it :D
Well I have emailed some dealers to see what they have...I guess it all depends on the test rides. I have sat on these bikes and they feel ok, although I have no idea how I'll feel when riding them.

True I guess. Having a jurno at the bars means what, good or bad?
I think your be ok with a demo bike . As stated big expense if you mess up your test ride..
What have you tried so far .
Don't just jump at the shinny good deal one .
Your going to keep it a couple of years we hope .

If I chop the SV in, as my lowers are scratched from my off, should I take them off before showing the dealer?
There's no hiding the fact its been down the road even with the lowers off. But I thought I might be able to flog the lowers separately if someone wants to spray em up.
Same goes for end can etc as well?

Ah crap, for me hy heart is saying gsx-r 750 as I love them, I am SRAD mad, they do everything I need - but having ridden a Street Triple R, I would love to buy 1 in the next 3-5 years as they are so light weight, chuckable, almost feel like they pull a bit stronger than the 750 (I think because of the more upright riding position, you feel more of the torque pulling you backwards away from the bars, where as with the sportsbike riding position you're more wedged into the thing)...
And the fact you're not the tallest chap in the world Hong, I actually genuinely think the riding position, size, weight, and style of the Triple would probably suit you better in all honesty.
The only way to find out is to get a test ride on both if you can buddy. Only thing which would sway it for me would be the 750 would be better for touring trips as it has more wind protection, but the triple R would be ideal for scotland trips like the one you did with Dave.
Good luck.... and I love you.
Go to dunmow book a test ride.
They do lowering kits £75.
Did you try the GSR ?
Take the bits of the sv and px it standard.

I bet its the headlight putting you off the gsr, lets it down IMO.
The reviews of it alone though would mean I'd never buy the standard tripple but the tripple R... yeah I'd maybe give that a go.
As for the tupperwear sports bikes, na... not for me. keep us posted on progress.

Currently arranging test ride on K8 GSXR600 and GSR750 with Romford Suzuki (just need to get some more details and find time).
I'm popping into Triumph in dunmow tomorrow to get a test ride booked up.
:D
In my heart of hearts I love the GSXR on the way it looks, and fack me the screaming IL4 noise is pure sex. I think the GSR and RRR are neck and neck on looks...

Since having my k9 gsxr 600 for 3 months now and doing nearly 2000 miles I can tell you the bike is perfect it does everything the only thing I dnt like is the seat doesn't transfer your weight very well so after 200 miles or so it starts to hurt.
Paul the 6th
24-07-12, 04:27 PM
oh and by the way hong - on the IL4's if you want them to move like the sv does, keep it above 6k revs.. Ask Fallout or Christopher. :) (and see fallout's facebook video of his test ride on my srad)

That'll be no problem I think, I dont really let the SV drop below 6k anyways. More like 9...

aye, just thought it worth mentioning since the first time I rode an inline 4 I was confused at how slow it was, short shifting up as if I was still on a twin. You need to 'work the engine' (see also, thrash f''ck out of them) to really get them moving :D
