Ive just bought a neoprene laptop case from sainsburys who are selling them off for 3 quid each & i thought i would have a go at a diy one. If anyone can take pics, dimensions, attch point advice it would be appreciated!

you do realise that covering up a steel built shock can actually make things worse as it traps moisture in.

You can get those punch in eyelets off ebay quite cheap.

Can you not just put some card around the shock like a piece of cereal box and then measure around that?

then just measure the height of the spring

Its to see how its stitched for fitting and what they have used for fixing it on.

From the one i have seen, it is folded over and stitched at the top and bottom to create a sort of tunnel, and you get two zip ties to tie it on with,

Id expect the middle to be velcro and theyve used fishgut to stitch it.

nylon thread is crap for stitching things as it breaks down and goes brittle. proper kevlar thread is what you want.

buy some sticky velcro, make a tube out of neoprene then stick/stitch velcro down both open ends. wrap around spring and secure with velcro. job jobbed.

to be honest though your OEM shock is going to be well shot/worn out before it rusts to bits.

Talk to theboatman, get a pack of proper 2pack drysuit adhesive to beef the threads up with.

you can buy thread from ebay that I use for making webbing that has a ridiculous break strentgh or get a bit of beeswax to coat standard cotton for waterproofing
